I'm amazed they aren't all *skyclad*...and I sure like my hardwoods too, but not THAT much... |

I am all for tree worship, I love trees and have a running list of my top five trees in my area. Tolkien loved trees as well.
But something queer about a bunch of White folks in the early 20th century dancing around in the woods with pointy white hats...(harmless as it may be)

Wannabe druids is my guess.
Personally, I show my homage to my sugar maples by greeting them each sugaring season with the cry: 'Give me sap or give me firewood!' Then I drill holes in them, insert metal spiles, take 10% of their blood and make magic from it. No fear, while they are producing they get lots of pats on the trunk and encouraging words, so I'm not all hard-core :-) In the off-season I watch them closely and remove as many dead limbs as I can to ensure the healthy continued growth of the tree. Oh and in the fall there is a whole lot of rakin going on!!! |

Remember, the Settlers found a land of endless, old-growth forest, a mature and thriving ecosystem, and in the matter of a few careless generations raped it back to bare soil all up and down the Eastern Seaboard. The movement that these girls are celebrating was born ion reaction to that... |
