I smell under 30 images in this challenge with under 50 votes on each.

Now it's up to you to prove me wrong.

You've got to be kidding. There's more than a day left! I predict that the biggest surge to way over 30 entries will occur between 6-8 hours before rollover :)

Yo Serge, come enter this damn challenge!

I guess we can... kinda blame this on Cory... with you as a distant second.

Prior challenge suggestioon

It was put in the queue on June 16, 2015, so it was suggested in some form a year ago. The description is a quote directly from Posthumous, the note says the challenge was requested by him. But so far I haven't found the source request either...

Here it is :-) OWN it!

Ha!

But... I hope no one feels obligated to do a suggestion of mine from a year ago.

Yet still...

I always like Manet for his tight structure; you can see the logic of the lawyer his family intended him to be in this painting. While he was grouped in with the fauvists, his painting owes more to Velasquez and Goya than the wild men. He took old master forms and placed them in modern settings, using signs of the new age and blank space to twist classicism. His Olympia pretty much made his reputation, and it is about as casually thrown together as one of Newton's proofs.

Yes, but from a photography perspective I love the idea that "snapshots" were being done by painters before photographers.

That being said, I would be perfectly happy to go with an "Inspired by Edouard Manet" challenge, with no description.

WHERE did that "with no description" part go?

Therein lies Tanguera's departure.

This is all I got out of it.

Although... I enjoyed it immensely.

However, that does not come up on a search of 'manet' on the challenge suggestions thread. But then, search has been generally busted for a while now, can't search more recent challenge entries either. Ticket entered a while back. Bet the db is just getting too crazy big.

ok I "own" the challenge description, but as a voter I will be happy with interpretations of any aspect of Manet's work.

For me, challenge descriptions are almost always about inspiring the photographer, not limiting the voter.

I would have much preferred Monet's work. Not doing this one unless change of heart. I'm anxious to see how everyone interprets this one. Y

Manets another way of saying mayonnaise.

Ok. I should be asleep at 2:21 am...

This was just a dream

À propos, last year in London I visited Somerset House, a great museum where the famous Manet painting "Un bar aux Folies Bergère" is proudly exhibited on the second floor...

After seeing it I went down to the ground floor cafe, and ...voila

These two photos were shot about 40 minutes apart

my first thought when I saw this was "someone suggested Monet, they typed Manet...I should photograph some Money"

So this challenge really intrigues me. But it also reminds me of something that popped up on my google feed.

This proves art is doomed (or something like that)

Are slice of life photos losing their place? Would we think of Manet's work in the same way if we were in the same time period and saw this type of thing over and over again? Do we have to see people in a special and unique way? Isn't there a purpose for showing life as it is?

Good golly! Where's the romance in that couple?

Does any woman really want to see her husband pooping?

About twenty years into our marriage, someone suggested that Hubby and I read these books:

The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands

[I can't remember the title of his... I'll ask him and get back to you.]

I read dutifully read mine... thinking... "Gee! I think I know what Hubby likes after TWENTY years together!" *rolleyes*

Boy, was I surprised. I've never been a fan (or non-fan) of Dr Laura's... but she nails this. On both sides.

I highly recommend them... no matter if you've never been married, or been married for fifty years, or anywhere in between.

"Now back to our regularly scheduled thread on Manet..."

I don't agree with the article at all. Most great "art" throughout the ages has depicted small, intimate, everyday scenes which have been elevated and transformed by the artist's interpretation. I find the scene quite tender, actually. And no more vulgar or provocative than any other "slice of life" offerings in today's art scene.
