Post your outtakes from the Churches III challenge here.

I was torn between this one and my actual entry...

Does anyone think this was a stronger choice? Obviously I ribboned, so I'm happy, but I'm curious...

I do prefer this one, actually, but they are both wonderful shots.

Outtakes

All of these are about a scandal involving 'The Church' rather than being about photos of individual churches (there are two different buildings here.) To anyone in Australia (and especially in Ballarat) 'Loud Fence' has meaning, but I guess not so much elsewhere.

I prefer the composition in the outtake, but not sure it would have scored higher. IMHO, that sky is too dark.

Gosh, Georges. All of those are fabulous. I don't know how you made a choice.

Georges, I think you chose the right one. I might have waffled between that one and the similar view from a little further to the right, with the overhanging roof, but in the end the one you chose would have won out for the more interesting detail in the foreground right. It's a great image to "explore".

I can't complain about how my entry finished:

While photographing the chapel from the other side, a visitor wandered into frame. I almost entered one of these:

But I thought my entry did a better job of featuring the church.

It was an interesting moment. I just sat quietly, and it crept even closer before scampering off.

I found them too sharp, too colorful perhaps and could not get the spiritual side

I love your outtakes, especially the third one, that deer is gorgeous! Still I think you chose the right shot to enter.

This was definitely not about the spiritual.

That was my impression too -- I think the entry may be a "better" photo, but I "like" that outtake better ... :-)

Yes, all I know about Ballarat comes from the "Dr. Blake Mysteries" -- which I'm guessing takes place before this scandal was uncovered (it's set in the mid-1950s?) ...

Yes, the abuse here took place from the 60s to the 80s but really only came to light in the 90s and presently is really in the spotlight.
When I was at high school (60s) there were rumours going around.

And yes, 'Dr. Blake Mysteries' is set in the 50s and is filmed partly in Ballarat and partly elsewhere. I have watched some filming from the sidelines.

Cool -- one of the local PBS stations is starting to carry some Australian crime dramas to supplement the numerous offerings from the BBC ... amazing how many ways there are of speaking the same language ... :-)
