All,

It's been a while since I last posted in the forums (apparently 87 months ago...)

I deem my personal photo website as no longer fit for purpose : //www.paulandcaillie.com/. Our long time vendor has not been keeping up with the times, and is unable to offer competitive storage. As such we have always been constrained to upload small, low quality versions of our photos. The gallery code itself has poor support for smaller screen devices, and the underlying code (gallery project) has become deprecated. All this has led me to conclude that the time has come to move to the cloud.

What do I want:
- Decent storage - should support 1k full sized images. I load about 500 per year and have over ten years worth. i.e. enough space for another five years would be good.
- Low cost - loads of offerings seem to give me the storage for free. Free would be nice, but am willign to pay a little for the other stuff I want.
- Support deep album paths (or multiple sub-albums). At least three deep, something like ///photos. For example //www.paulandcaillie.com/index.php/2015/10-03-South-Africa/10-06-Pilansberg.
- Good mobile support (without app download) i.e. if I share an album on facebook I want friends on mobile devices to be presented with a mobile friendly UI.
- Sleek look and feel. I don't need bells and whistles, but it shouldn't look clunky.

Unimportant:
- editting - I will continue to do my own post processing
- Community - not needed, I get all the social I need from people I know.

Note: this will NOT be my primary back-up, but should function as a secndary back-up. i.e. needs to support higher quality images.

My own take:
- Google photos would be perfect, except for the lack of deep album support.
- Flickr looks promising, but the nested Collections/Sets are only available for pro
- Shutterfly (ThisLife) looks promising, but I can only manage one layer of folders (and then albums).

Advice appreciated! Thanks.

Perhaps piwigo is an alternative. It's probably offered somewhere. It can nest as deep as you want. For an example: //socks.hajeka.com

You might also check out the venerable pbase.com -- not too fancy but easy to use and to link to ...

I have a few sites I use. I was a Smugmug user, but I liked the management and customization interface (and the price) better at Zenfolio. I've been there now quite a few years, though they hiked the price a bit this year, so I've also experimented and tried alternatives...including Piwogo as Hajeka suggested.

Piwigo is free to self-host, and their hosting is very cheap too at $3.25/mo. Try it here for free for a month, as the easiest way: //piwigo.org/hosting/

I have a personal Piwigo site (self-hosted), in parallel to a version I have on Zenfolio as well. I haven't spent a lot of time on it, but I think for a personal gallery it works well.

One of my requirements was to support the collage type gallery you see here. Zenfolio has that as well.

However, for personal use (not sales) at $60 per year, I think Zenfolio might be the best deal, as it's very professional in look, and professionally supported. I have the premium plan (now called pro), which is considerably more expensive (though I'm grandfathered in at a lower price than they advertise now--the pro plan is quite expensive!). But the starter plan at $60 has Unlimited storage, very mobile friendly, all of the features you probably need if you don't sell photos online. Here's the plan features and comparison -- it's a bit hard to get to this from their flashy site!

You can try any plan for one month as a free trial too...so worth trying. When you sign up, use this referral code and you'll save 10% if you eventually subscribe:

All,
Thanks for the inputs here.
I have decided to go for piwigo - having assessed about 10 alternatives.
Does anyone have a piwigo referral code that I can use = subscription savings for you.

Thanks
