Hey everyone.. I am excited to be taking a trip for my next client which will be a week long out in the Sacramento Davis area. I will be out there from 23-28th for training

Of course, I will be galavanting around town for photography..if any of you are close love to meet up!! Won't know my schedule for a few more days but it will be during day hours at the University of California Davis

Any areas of interest that I should be paying attention too??
Also, any insight to how the traffic is please.let me know...I do live in Iowa but have driven in Chicago Traffic lolol

Well, you need to go up the hill into the mountains, for sure. How much time can you steal to do it? Lake Tahoe's not far away at all, about 2 1/2 hours will do it. Even if you can't go that far, you are driving up through gold rush country, so there's a bunch of cool places to check out. And in Davis, you're not all that far from the Bay Area. There's a LOT of wetlands down that way before you reach SF Bay proper that are teeming with bird life...

You really owe it to yourself to schedule a couple extra days after work ends and go up to Yosemite...

It will be getting dark by 6 or so -- will you have any time to shoot during daylight hours? I second Bear's suggestion ... right in Sacramento there's a pretty good railroad museum but it's only open until 5 ...

I will know more of schedule wed. I wish I had time to go there, that would be soo awesome! My time will be short and sweet unfortunatly, but If there was something I can get to after work that is close by or things worth seeing, I will be all over that :-)

I believe my work schedule for training will be a 8-430 thing. I will know more wed

I somehow get the idea that you like to photograph birds. Davis is in the middle of the Pacific Flyway migration area, and this time of year the migration is well underway.
Lodi is about an hour away, and has an abundance of Sand Hill Cranes - The Sacramento Wildlife Refuge is about an hour away in the other direction and has a wonderful drive-thru program where you can pick up many good bird pics. But both of these are probably too far away for an 'after class' visit. However, there are plenty of wetlands around Davis and any student will no doubt be pleased to direct you to them. Davis is that kind of campus. It's programs are directed somewhat towards agriculture and viticulture. ( I have to be careful here, as they are NOT an "ag" school.) Anyhow, they know the terrain.

You'll find plenty to like in Davis and in nearby Sacramento. Save San Francisco for another time when you have lots of it.

The major wetland is the Yolo Bypass (the highway -- I-80 -- goes right through it on the Yolo Causeway) and there's a turnoff for the Vic Fazio Wildlife Refuge ... it's right between Sacramento and Davis, not too far from either (can be major traffic though).

Another good-looking link ...

Well, that's something I didn't know about! From the Bay Area, for a long time, I've always taken the 505 cutoff to avoid the Sacro spaghetti and extra miles getting to I-5.
Glad to see there's good restoration going on in that area now.

That is super cool! I will be def. checking that out. I am really hoping to catch the flight to where it lands me at Sacramento a little bit after 1 or so, Love the wildlife, I will def. check that out and that is close where I will be at too, a lot of the attractions will be closed by the time I am able to get there, but I hear the seafood is super good too :-) Thank you for letting me know about that!
