You can see what kind of photography I do here I used 6D and it is working well no issues to report except that it is about to hit to 150K actuations so either I pay for the shutter or look for new camera.

Question - it is worth $1000 for Mark IV on top price of Mark III? What is my gain by doing so when its come to what kind of photography I do? I dont care of GPS, NFC when these features come into discussion.

Does the shutter have a self-destruct mechanism which activates at 150K?

LOL - good one!

As per the documentation it has 100K life expectancy so to me it's time to replace the shutter speed as it might break during an event and dont want to look bad at that point in time.

Already being at 150% of the MTBF makes your concern more relevant. :-)

If you replace the shutter you'll have (possibly significant) down time, if you just buy a replacement you'll have a (possibly unreliable) backup camera ... but I'm sorry but I can't help with feature comparisons -- I haven't use a DSLR except once when I borrowed one for a challenge my camera didn't "wualify" for ...

The Canon Mark III served me well for three years. Still a very capable camera. I've now owned the Canon Mark IV for 6 months and I would not go back to the Mark III.

My favorites features of the Mark IV:

1. Higher resolution
2. Improved dynamic range
3. Much better focusing system. Faster, more accurate, more responsive.
4. Better handling of electronic noise. Ability to go to higher ISO with more manageable electronic noise.
5. Touch screen LCD. (a big deal)
6. Better dust and water sealing. More bulletproof and "waterproof". Design/build much improved.
7. Rational customization of controls.
8. Superior battery life. (especially with Canon BG-E20 grip )
9. The DIGIC 6+ processor in the 5D Mark IV is considerably faster.

I couldn't be more delighted with the upgrade. (I haven't done much video, so if video is a high priority, I'd look elsewhere.)

Unlike Richard I have not owned the Mk III, but I would echo Richard's thoughts on the high points of the Mk IV. I kept my 6D as a second/backup body, but frankly I've almost never used it. I'm actually considering selling the 6D and picking up a used 5Dsr as my second body.

If your itch is for MK4 and if you want it then why not.

If strictly used as a tool for photos during gigs I think a MK3 or even another 6D would do the job very well.

I only have the 6D and I don't plan to replace it soon. I spent money on a drone and again because I wanted not that I needed it.

That is what battle is going on in me. Keep the body price low and buy lenses and other stuff. That is why I debating and reason I posted my site to show what all kinds of events I do so that get some idea on whether spending $3500 just for body or keep body price low and spend on more good lens.

If you decide to back up your current 6D with another 6D, I'd consider selling my 6D body. For a DPCer I would offer a better price than I would elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure most people don't replace the shutter until after it stops working, but if you are shooting paid events you should have a backup camera anyway. There are many things that can go wrong besides the shutter. That being said, if it will give you peace of mind, it only costs $150-200 to replace it, much cheaper than a Mark IV :)

BTW, I know of several photographers with Mark III's with shutter counts of 300K, where the MTBF is 150K.

FWIW, Canon repair is very quick and located in your state. Turnaround time should only be about a week for you. Also, Canon 6D bodies are really inexpensive now– $1249 @ B&H or even a bit less refurbished from Canon. If you're happy with the 6D, you could get a new shutter, 2nd body, AND a high end lens for less than a Mark IV.

Just bought the 5D Mark IV last week. I also purchased the "Creative Live" seminar on the Mark IV to learn about all the bells and whistles. It is a very good seminar for those who prefer visual and audio learning to reading the instruction book. While making some menu changes an error message came up on my rear camera screen. After I was unable to reboot the camera I took the lens off and discovered that the mirror had locked up. I called Canon and said it was a mechanical failure. I could have sent it to them for repair or return it to the seller for replacement. I chose to replace the camera with a new one. I am waiting for the replacement. From my limited experience with the camera I am sure I will really enjoy it. I just hope the mishap is not a possible defect in construction and does not happen again.
