There is a large variety of photographers here and I'm just wondering the following of all of our members:

Are you a member of your local Camera Club?
Do you only compete on DPChallenge or do you have other online groups you submit challenges for?
Do you submit images in international competitions?

Anything else you want to add in your reply just go for it.

was a member of 2 photographic societies one being the national body, the other unfortuantly has just been wound up for lack of interest. It seems to be the pattern another club in nearby Foxton has also been wound up for the same reason

My local camera club is too stuck up LOL They were all about the brand of camera and lenses... A few of them never even heard of Pentax..
Their images were not that great and when they did CC, it was very insulting and belittling instead of being helpful
For my images I have had huge luck on Instagram and even have gotten published through contacts and followers, my website which I am thinking about dropping in the next year. and Facebook is good as well wtih the networking.
I do belong to two local modeling and photography groups which totally rock and we are like family. I LOVE THEM, so my experience and learning has been growing leaps and bounds, the photographers work together and we help each other on our strengths and weaknesses and we all have something to offer for helping each other. The models always love to be in front of the camera so its always a win-win situation for practicing. Alot of the models have ideas they want to try and us photographers are like YEAH, LETS DO IT! Sometimes it works other times not so much, but we have fun when we do try among many laughs in between.
I am very highly addicted to those groups. We have meet ups all the time and its super fun as well, our 2hr meet up turn into 5-6hrs because we all hang around and chat and socialize.

But as far as DPC, I try to enter what fits as I shoot, I no longer have time to shoot for the specific challenges due to my wildlife rehab being in full blast season. But when a shoot fits a certain challenge, I will submit it then, I peek here and there to DPC to see whats going on. In the fall I will be able to participate more.

View bug as well as the other challenge webiste has been a joke so I stopped doing those. I do not submit to other challenges. However, a few models have submitted my work for things they are doing, which is pretty awesome!

I have found most small local camera clubs to be incestuous, judgmental, narrow-minded, and like most small organizations, have the 5% inner circle that runs the club within their own worldview. I belonged to two of them for a while. I also found that after being on DPC for a number of years, that the majority of the members are incredibly ill-informed of techniques, styles, genres, and the benefits of working together to share ideas.I actually had one competition where I won by such a wide margin in a B&W category it was almost embarrassing. Afterwards, during a "talk" from one of the club gurus about B&W conversion techniques I offered up a technique I liked. I was informed that my technique was odd, and not particularly beneficial. I remarked as to how funny that seemed since it was the technique I used on the image that cleaned house in the scoring.

I never went back to either after that.....

As always, YMMV...

I do belong to a local FB group that just started up to meet up and shoot. So far, it's been fun.
