for those of us who think the "challenge" of DPChallenge is to challenge ourselves, it's not a free study.

I agree, but... the challenge topic of "Out of Character" does not actually require us to shoot for anything.

We can shoot what we always shoot and no one will know it's us until rollover.

So, to me... it's a Free Study... until rollover.

I'd rather have something more specific to challenge us.

I don't care what it is. :D

Free Study it IS!

Game on!

LOL!

perhaps the challenge is actually character

Ha!

I'm all about that.

But... we'll see all of it after rollover.

It would be "out of character" for me to not participate. So, that's what I will do.

I think it's the ultimate challenge, actually. Sitting for specific things lets us do it how were want. This is having us do it in a way we don't want or, even better, in a way we've always wanted but have never had the guts to do. The possibilities are endless, yet completely foreign.

This is one of the best learning challenges, if you embrace it.

I can hardly wait to see Don's national geographic wildlife shot. :-)

But I was really looking forward to your Translucent Glassware shot, Richard :-)

I'm having a hard time figuring what would be out of character for me, actually. I've pretty much dabbled in everything by now :-)

I think we're in the same boat, but we should be OK if we just shoot for ribbons: Blue for me, Brown for you ... :-)

...I would still like to see this happen.

"Show us your morning"...special rule, photo must be shot between 5 and 11 am in your timezone. Get up and out there, or stay in bed, either way take a picture of it in some gorgeous morning light.

OMG!!!!
So RKT's post reminded me of a challenge. Something ungodly early in the morning. My son and I went out and tried the challenge, and we both remember it very fondly (and very sleepily...)

Just went to look for it:

Jesse just graduated from high school and leaves us to go to college in a couple of weeks. He was so little then!

I second RKT's suggestion about show us your morning, but I think it should be a bit earlier: like 3am-10am in your timezone. And perhaps have it not be necessarily morning light. Our mornings with him for the last 2 years never saw any light. He went to a magnet school for the first half of the day and got up at 4:50 and was gone way before the sun came up. It would have been fun having a shot of him walking down the road in the dark with just the street light at the end of the street. Or him silhouetted in the lights of the school bus.

My suggestion is all about the beautiful morning light, and I stand by my original times, 5am-11am. 3 am is way too early...and dark.

Good idea! I would be enthusiastic about a challenge like this!

This is a great time of day for taking photos, but I think this should be called Morning IV.
Morning III
Morning II
Morning

A recent challenge (about 4 weeks ago) was similar in "Landscape: Show us the Light". Although I understand your idea to include more than just landscape opportunities ... wherever the morning light is a photo worthy subject.
