:-D Glad you were able to see it. Sounds awesome. Our oldest one went down to South Carolina and he said the same thing.

What surprised me was how much light we still HAD here with the sun being obscured by 83%. Thought it was going to be a bit darker. Barely dimmed.

We were amazed, as well!! That the vast majority of the sun was covered and it was only a bit dimmer.

What was weird was that the world was desaturated. It was heading towards twilight but not golden hour. Really quite freaky.

When it was getting pretty dark, the cicadas all started chirping really loudly. That was cool/freaky.

It's things like this that you don't even think about that I heard was the coolest part.

Like, the clouds surrounding it seemed as though it had a sunset/sunrise color to them... Or take for example Cory posted on Facebook that he noticed plane lights became more vibrant during it.

I noticed a distinct pressure change when we were at the most eclipsed. It was really weird.

I didn't realize we had an Eclipse challenge. Darn!

I decided to play golf during the eclipse, as I think I said earlier, and it was keen-o! It started getting dimmer and cooler and the winds picked up and the birds were making less noise. But the golf went on :-)

What is the lowest score you will cast? I mean, my cumulative is sort of low. I did photograph the partial in Connecticut, but they aren't soectacular, wow photos. Do I enter, or don't I? Do voters intend to be ruthless on this one?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there will be a select few that stand out and the rest will be mediocre... This is due to the fact that it's a pretty difficult thing to capture. Just my two pennies - I think that the overall scores will be fairly low with the exception of the few that stand out (those will be in the upper 6 range in my opinion). We'll see though. I've been known to be wrong from time to time... Just as my ex... *smirks*

Mine didn't turn out well. They were fuzzy, and I'm not sure why.

Some of that can be cleared up in post processing. You may have had too low a shutter speed. I actually photographed mine at the smallest aperture I could, (36.) Then I had the shutter at one point up to 1/4000 with an ISO of 54. They actually came out fairly clear, but the ones that were fuzzy I did extreme tonal adjustments in post processing and was able to get a much more defined outline. Still, the photos are pretty bland. Kind of boring topic I would think to vote on. Well, I have 6 days to decide if I want to run the risk of a 4 or 3 vote total.

Wendy, I had to adjust my focus after it started...glad I did. I had it set on infinity but that needed to be adjusted further. Once I did that they are all nice n sharp.

June enter!!! You shot...even the partials are more interesting to me...my lowest score will be a 5. Because if you took the time to shoot and you got an image - you get a 5 minimally...everything else is up from that!!!

Weirdly enough, I was kinda thinking the same thing. I didn't give myself a hard cut off like Janine, but I know my votes will be high even for the blander looking ones based on the fact that I know it's a difficult topic. Effort means more to me on this challenge than most other challenges.

Okay, the arguments have convinced me. I will enter, and stop worrying about scores. This is supposed to be fun and also a way to challenge our abilities. I have never shot a solar eclipse before, so I learned a lot yesterday. Now I can't wait for the
2024 eclipse in the Great Lakes Region. Plan on getting a few more fun gadgets for that one.

Well I'm NOT posting anything here... I haven't decided what's going in the challenge yet, LOL. Heck, haven't really finished processing yet. All I can say is, "mann" did I get a great location. I was at the Mann Creek Reservoir just north of Weiser, ID. Free camping (federal land) and a very nice, moderately-sized group of folks from all over the world. We even had a "totality wedding!"

My eye still isn't working, so I couldn't tell. But it claimed that it found focus. Can you not trust the beeps??

When I'm in manual I don't get beeps (I actually have a dot that lights up in my viewfinder)
