Hi DPC, It's been years since I've been a member, and I decided I'd get back in the game. Excited to enter some challenges. This is really where I learned photography as a kid, well teenager. Even though I haven't participate for years, I've been doing more photography than ever, and hopefully improved some. I still remember some names, and will have to look them up: Larus, Bear_Music and Joey Lawrence, are a few that I remember off hand that always inspired me.

Welcome home, Justin.

Hi Justin, glad you're back. Most important thing to do is READ.THE.RULES. There are many changes to the size of entries and the rulesets. Basic Editing is long gone, Advanced Editing is now called Standard, Minimal has stayed the same and I don't know if Expert existed when you were last around, but it's now called Extended.

I do have one question. I auto convert all my RAW photos to DNG format immediately upon import into Lightroom. Will the original DNG count for qualification purposes as the unedited file? It's the same file as the CR2 with a different extension.

I think the last statement you may have seen still applies: "Files that have been saved or altered with any editing or transfer software are NOT originals."

Fairly certain that would still be the case with DNG conversion. If SC do not respond in here you can use the 'Help / Contact Us' link to ask them directly.

Good luck and happy shooting!

Justin, I also have to convert my RAWs (actually they're NEFs) to DNG. I am always careful to save the original NEF in case of validation, because DNG doesn't cut it.

You must save the original file unaltered in any way for validation. Where people get in trouble is that they let a program import jpegs instead of manually transferring them into a folder. This alters the jpeg files and voids them for validation. As long as you don't jettison the original RAW files after importing them , you're good.

Or buy a Leica, where the original RAW files are DNGs :-)

Welcome back, Justin!
Jeb is right. We need the original raw file. Don't ever touch that for any challenge entry.

Except for 'Minimal Editing' ... then you need to have an unaltered JPG file. :-)

So if I import my CR2 files into Lightroom using the "copy" function to add them to my collection, the file will stay intact, correct?
