Maybe she's twisted up enough to believe that if she's doing you a favor by allowing you to shoot, she owns the work product, and she's being generous by allowing you to share it with her?

It is a satirical post. It touches on many points photographers go through when dealing with people who do not understand what goes into the work. As for the copyright comment, copyrights can be sold and/or traded. It was a good laugh, but it does remind you the headaches people go through everyday running businesses and dealing with the general public.

True.....

But by the actual copyright owner, which in this case is definitely *NOT* her.

If she wants shared copyright, *SHE* needs to pay.

I guess I fail to find this all that funny because I've had a couple similar situations where I've been offered jobs where I'd work for free to enhance my portfolio.

Not... No thanks... Buh-bye...

There is also another side to this coin.

I do a small job for a local hospital every year when they give awards to their staff for years of service which I get paid for.
They contacted me and asked if I would shoot a fundraiser for breast cancer. Images were for newsletter purposes and an account of the event so just shoot what I want.
My payment was a ticket at the table which included a free meal and drink (valued at $95) and they added me to the sponsor list and I would be credited in the newsletter.
I agreed to do the shoot and offered to make a full presentation for them to link on sponsor sites and in their newsletter instead of just sending them a few photos.

Here is the presentation that I gave them and they were totally impressed PINKTOBER

I was happy to do the shoot as it was for a really good cause.
The presentation can be used to promote next years fundraiser and other purposes.
I'm really proud of the presentation I made for them.
I need to shoot more of this type of work to get comfortable with it and with approaching people so this was a useful lesson for me.

This presentation was created with spark.adobe.com
I only found it a few weeks ago and I'm totally in love with it.
It's perfect for this type of work where I can offer a link to someone but I have total control over it.

I've worked for non-profit organizations since the early 1970s and I think there is nothing wrong in discounting or donating services to an organization to which you might otherwise give cash.

While we're on the topic of copyright...

Unbelievable copyright theft case

I do work for free on occasion. But it's work I choose for my reasons. To have someone suggest/request that I work for their benefit and try to thinly disguise it as being an "opportunity" to further my reputation/career/portfolio is what I find distasteful.

Exactly. I consider myself a serious hobbyist who occasionally makes sales via Alamy. I know I have the skills and gear. I don't need to shoot anything for my port, but if the opportunity arises to shoot stuff I may not normally be interested in, sure I'll shoot for free...but I do charge for prints and slather my watermark all over them to help hinder theft :-)

Shocking at first. Then once you read the whole story and see the satire and irony of how at one point or another service providers encounter these type of people.

Freelancing Doesn't Mean Free.

I would love to see a link to the Bride's social media posts.

What an awesome gesture of kindness. I've gone to the hospital and given free hairdos to clients of mine to help in their recovery. I get as much out of this as they do. Kudos to you.

Thank you, RamblinR [/quote]

Robert, you DO realize the original post by the "bride" was a satirical piece? It's like a compilation of ALL the cardinal sins rolled into one big ball of hot mess :-)
