Presumably the updates will come at a cost. For now I'm perfectly happy with what I got for free.

Having spent over $1000 pre-Google for all the products and subsequent upgrades, some modest fees might seem like a bargain.

I think they are going to eventually morph into the business model that Topas Labs has established. After years of stand alone plugins, all future developments will be with the Topaz Studio front end, which they are trying to position as a lower cost Photoshop alternative.
