Possibly not -- I think "flash" units use a capacitor to buildup a high-voltage to discharge, and that takes some time. It *might* be faster if hooked up to an AC power supply/adapter rather than batteries ...

A true "strobe" might function faster ... you might want to ask over at the Strobist website where someone should know for sure ...

Yes and no... you can get a quick burst when you are using flash at low power, but in outdoor situations you need a lot of flash power to overpower sunlight. That raises the recharge time. There are external battery packs that can cut recharge time, but not to the extent where burst shooting is possible. If you were actually able to shoot a fast burst at high power, you might very well melt components of the flash head.

I believe most of them have safeguards to prevent this.

But shooting in burst mode is not something you are going to do much of with a flash (it is possible, but only in low power for short periods of time).
