Art creates a world.

Or maybe that's too grandiose.

Art creates a home.

Or maybe it's just a room.

Art says, 'Welcome to this room.'

And nothing else.

Art just leaves you in the room.

Art can be frustrating that way. Not explaining any thing to you.

But sometimes that's what you want.

You want to be welcomed to someone else's home, but you also want to be left alone. You want to be in this other world, but you want to see it for yourself.

And sometimes you blink your eyes a few times and think, wait, this is MY home.

And sometimes in a moment of weakness you think this is more home than my home.

Wait, where am I? You ask. Are those tears in your eyes?

And that's when you give out your posthumous Blue Ribbon, like someone who was raised from the dead.

Or maybe that's too grandiose.

Like a hot cup of coffee on Saturday morning.

That's it. Art is coffee.

Well CRAP!!

I was there with it!! I was there in the room feeling it! I cried! I laughed! I feel on the floor embracing it!

And it turned out to be coffee?!

I hate coffee!

Why can't art be a rum runner or hot chocolate with Baileys?

*sniff* *sob*!

I had the coffee in my cup.
It was hot and tempting but I just couldn't leave it alone.
I mistakenly put in too much cream and sugar.
I need to learn to drink it black.

I think that’s the point though... art is anything you want it to be:)
Good poem Don, as usual.

In this discussion, “I am the beholder”. I am so much more certain what is ‘not’ (art) than what ‘is’.
Voting in this challenge is a pleasure..it speaks or not.

To me art is the true expression of emotion. You can express love, anger and even hatred via all different forms of medium. I love the many words about art and Art. I may have seen Art running through my ferns.

Art is whatever you want it to be, which is what makes it art.
You have given an average score of 6.0220

I was going through my photos to see if I had an image that qualified for this challenge. In the end I could not find one that was 'arty'.

Well after voting it seems I could have just entered anything..........

I think not. You need to call it art to make it art. If you don't then it isn't.

We will just have to agree to disagree then. I don't think calling something art makes it art. I have looked at the images again, not changed my mind about some of the entries.

That's a slightly different discussion. My argument was that if you (the artist) don't call your work art, then it isn't one.

The other discussion is whether it is enough to call something art to make it art. This is where we differ.

This is a good place to quote Piet Hein (the Danish Philosopher/Mathematician) one more time:

There is one art,
No more, no less:
To do all things
With artlessness.

Think about it. It makes sense. The enemy of art, it could be said, is intention.

Seems opinions are very divided. After 8 votes my score was 6.875. By 38 votes it had dropped all the way to 5.3889. Not sure whether it would have done better or worse in Best of 2017.

I'm gonna print that out and hang it in my gallery (the one I mentioned earlier).

I would like to add to Don's list of artful moments...

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1211697.jpg . by 21_F.gif 2mccs

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1211271.jpg . by 21.gif nixter

Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1211647.jpg . by 21.gif posthumous

Edit to add: these three were among my favorites, along with some that received PH accolades.
