I know dumb question.

I just assumed that Lr was made more for photographers. Hence, has more features for them (us) to use. Is that the case? When I was into photography a dozen years ago I was learning PS6 (still have the cheat sheet). Mind you I wasn't very prolific at that time. I was using just basic editing tools. I was fixing old photos and getting rid of tears, tape marks, removing people and gates from my Stonehenge picture (grrrrr), brightening teeth, you get the idea. So, I'm wondering which way I should go? Now I'm thinking the photography Plan for $10 a month and getting both Lr and PS. Sound about right? Should I just start in PS and learn as I go or use Lr first then up the ante to PS?

I'm a little confused. Please help

Steve

Thanx for all the help so far guys

Me personally, I've always used LR to edit and convert RAW files...

I import them, adjust them, then export them as JPG's.... From there they go to PS, where more intricate work can be done.

I would suggest learning both, but you only need basic knowledge of LR, where PS is practically limitless and should be your primary study... Just my 2 cents...

The photography plan is perfect. A bargain at the price. I do all my preliminary processing in LR then head over to PS for the "enhanced" editing, basically. Being already familiar with PS, you should plan on continuing to use it IMO, but LR is the way to go for RAW processing, cataloging, and basic editing work, including spot editing.

I start in Lr doing basics and getting a great catalog to boot. Then I move over to PsCC for the detail work...I try to do 1-2 new tutorials a week...YouTube is my best friend...

I have a similar workflow to those above, except I use the RAW software that came from the camera manufacturer (Canon DPP and Olympus Viewer) and then finish the exported JPG in Corel PSP.

Yes, I have Lr - Anthony Morganti and PsCC - Phearn...there are lots of others but I do like these. Two in particular...whenever I’m trying to find something I just search until I find what I’m looking for...ie Content Aware in my last ribbon...what an eye opener that was!!!

I liked kelby's book "how do I do that in Lightroom". Simple and to the point. I just ordered the same series for ps. So, my thoughts are that I'll relearn ps based on what I need or want to do.

Thanks all
I also wouldn't mind a few more names for basic ps videos on YouTube.

I am so glad to see a fellow PSP user on DPC! Learning Adobe PS has always seemed like a life-long endeavor, so I have been reluctant to embark. That said, my RAW and early stage processing workflow is so lame using a combination of Nikon Capture and other plug-ins that I just downloaded LR. Tutorials abound so I will be on line for the next few months (years) :-)

There's a few others. We had a resources thread for PSP going a few years back. Links are not all going to be current, but enough will.

If the Scott Kelby roadshow comes near you, buy a ticket. I learned a tremendous amount in the 1 day seminar. Still refer to the workbook.
