After much time and effort, we finally have a lens database! You should check out the new preferences page to add any lenses you have to your profile (almost done), update the lenses used on all your images in your portfolio if you're a member, and of course browse all the lenses.

If you have a lens that's not in the database, use the contact us page to have it added.

Many thanks to Drew for the initial effort, the SC for their feedback and testing, and most notably, kirbic and mk for the god-knows-how-many-hours of time they spent cleaning up the database.

Now please wait while I copy up all the new files.

hrmm

The requested URL /portfolio_upload_process2.php was not found on this server

Strange, once I added the location to "south park" it updated that, but didn't update the lens.

OK I'm stupid, sorry. It works now.

Awesome feature!

There are probably 10000000 we don't have. Who makes it?

You have to add it in your Preferences first.

I've still got to add it to your PROFILE, if that's what you meant.

Hey Langdon...the Canon 17-40 L and the 70-200 f2.8 L seem to be listed, but they are missing from my bag... can you do anything about that while you're fixing things?? ;o)
04/20/2005 10:40:17 PM · #17
i can't post the picture of the lens... i had this problem before... i have it on my profile and i press the last button to insert the photos id and it does not appear makes a broken link...
And with the other shots i can do..
I took this from the web and put it on my portfolio and now it doesn't show here this is what happens.

FWIW, I sent in a note about including mount information. The Sigma 18-125 is listed "for Olympus", and of course, there are other mounts, and mine is for Canon, which isn't there.

So why include mount information--it will just lead to a fourfold or more increase in the number of lenses in the list. Is there a reason we need to know mounts?

Alright.. I'll need these two lenses added:
Pentax SMC-A 50mm f/1.7
Pentax SMC-A 28mm f/2.8

OH.. and:

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Macro Super II for Pentax

The photo is a gif but the thumbnailer assumes it's a jpg so it doesn't work.

Question about this general interface: is the reference we make to photos in our portfolio, say to camera, referred over to our camera list or to a central list. My G2 is broken, and I didn't remove it from my profile because of the implications for referential integrity; but it has occured to me that my photos may refer to a central list, not my profile list.

So should we delete dead cameras (and later, broken lenses), or can we have a little RIP icon to put next to them? ;)
