Someone from the Philippines used one of my photos and won first place in a photo competition there. Is that low or what? Sheesh!

Low just doesn't really cover it!
06/30/2005 11:40:18 AM · #5
That is lower than low!

I hope you contacted the appropriate folks so the image gets disqualified. You should feel honoroed that your photo won first place though. =]

(And people wonder why some of us are against increasing the size restrictions on submissions...)

So you did let the competition organizers know, right? Your pic is awesome by the way.

Yep I wrote a mail to the administrator. By the way didn't we have a gigi here once?

This is why copyright statements should be allowed on all challenge entries...IMHO

What recourse would someone have on protecting their IP ???
06/30/2005 11:42:41 AM · #10
You should contact the competition folks and let them know immediately.
I would think you could also sue the individual for copyright infringement.

I once came across some coasters on ebay that a gal was using a photo of one of my pugs - a photo I took! I contacted her and told her that if the listing was not pulled within an hour, I would sue her for copyright infringment along with reporting her to ebay. She did pull the item. I have kept close watch since and have not seen it happen again.

Some people have no morals.

There's only one, your's -- I'm not evaluating any design work, since that's what I do, it would have to be separate ... : )

Hey, can I use your photo (for "fun") and see if I can come up with a better treatment?

I thought I had done a good job of sleuthing and found the website in question, but it seems to be last year's version. I just wanted to see if I could recognize any other photos from other sites on the web. Here is the link. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS TO HARASS THE SITE OWNERS! Let Gary (Kiwiness) take care of this.

if it's the same giggi and assuming her DPC entries are her own that is so sad she feels the need to cheat as her shots are pretty good.
06/30/2005 11:58:29 AM · #19
Unbelievable! How did you find out about it? Did Gigi (name on winning violation) think it wouldn't be noticed? Geez...

The current version seems to be //photocup.multiply.com/ , but an attempt to view photos gets the following message:

The fppf-photocup group does not have any Photo Albums currently available for non-members. Please click on the Home tab and check out the rest of our site.

I wonder if they locked it 'cuz of Nick?

I hope you are going to check to see if her ribbon winning photo is actually hers.
