First of all: Thank you everyone for your comments last week. I did quite well so it was nice reading.
I have now been in for two challenges and is on my third. As all people out here I love to get comments - good or bad. First week I did really bad and got 6 comments. Last week, that was a hit, I got 32 comments during voting. This week I´m doing in the middle and getting, let´s saý, 10-15 comments.
As a newbie I feel like this after a few weeks:
It´s hard to comment every picture. So if you intend to comment just a few - comment the bad ones first, because they need it!
Yes it´s very very VERY nice to read all the good things people are saying when you are doing well. But it´s when you are doing bad you need all the creative comments. Like - good composition, technical great, but not interesting at all. Than I know that I have to concentrate harder on the themes.
Thanks again - I´m glad for being here.

I agree. Although both types of comments are important. For example, in the current challenge I'm averaging about a 4.5 right now, yet I've had some encouraging comments that have helped a lot. I think the important part about comments is to be specific about what you did or didn't like. Being patted on the back or kicked in the face both have limited value because they don't tell you what worked in the photo and what didn't. Specific recommendations for change or praise of a specific aspect of the photo are comments worth their weight in gold. However, it's true that people seem to comment more on better photos, when in fact those photos that need the most suggestions are the ones that need the most work, so I too would encourage everyone to not just comment on photos that they like.. harsh words can be just as valuable as flowery ones.
