Not an idea I invented but a friend introduced me to it yesterday and I made these 52 Amazing Circles last night - it's a fairly simple process in Photoshop.

Click here to see Kavey's Amazing Circles

This group contains several thousand more, including my own.

Hope you enjoy!

Wow, they're really cool. Care to share the process?
12/16/2005 11:35:30 AM · #3
Sure!

My friend passed this link on to me and I created an action for it:

//brilliantdays.com/archives/2005/10/how_to_create_a.php

The action is just the three steps - filter distort polar to rectangular, transform rotate 180 degrees and filter distort polar the other way...

Then to run it you select an image, marquee select a square selection using the SHIFT key and run the action. If you like what you see, copy and paste it into a new image. If not, revert the image and select a different square and go again!

Thanks, I have PSP, I can't find the equlivalent to some of those filters, too bad.

There may be equivalent filters or instructions on how to do similar using PSP - might be worth having a search on the net...

You're welcome Robert. It's fun ain't it?
Takes seconds to create an action so you can try it out on lots of crops of lots of pics...
You can see my first ever one in that set I linked in the first post...

Why do I keep getting that line at top-dead-center?

fixed the thumbnail link. For some reason the image id for the thumb and full size image were not the same.

ooo pretty!! Its sorta fun seeign what will happen...

This is fun!

The selection needn't be a square unless you want the result to be a circle. Check out this transformation of the Pudong area of Shanghai.

The thumbnail isn't very good but the full size image is interesting.

This was done with PSP9. Everything was quite similar. I just used 'rotate' in a different way, unchecking the 'rotate all layers' option.

Cool! You can do the same thing using GIMP! Gotta figure out how to get rid of that branch cut, though. (No pun intended).

If Gimp has something like the healing brush that would probably work.

Wonderful images. I can't wait to try this when I get home.

It must have flown into a window. Um, backwards. ;-)
