I notcied on B&H they have a light kits.
I have read about a number of them:
Tungsten 2 Flood Light Kit
Umbrella Kit
I am going to be trying to do some portrait work in the next few months. Which one of these would be best. Or has anyone used something else similar. I have around $200 to $300 to spend. I know nothing about what lights to buy so any help here is greatly appreciated.

This is wavelength's prelim report about strobes I helped him find on ebay. I like the look of the kit - this is his hands on report.

That would be fine I guess but I was thinking of exploring other options

if ur shooting anything animate, use strobes. continuous lights burn pretty hot

I will be doing mostly portrait work.
So either strobes or this:
