challenge is to pick a famous photographer or artist and enter a picture taken in their style.

Might broaden some people's horizons to the types of work photographers have done. Ed Weston's peppers to Ansel Adam's moon rise to Dali's flying cats.

Huge scope of options. Voting might be hard as people would have to enter a sample of the original style they were trying to copy. Anohter challenge that needs a 'caption' field as part of the entry I think.

You know what? I think this is a fantastic idea. Would be truly educational.

However, I think it would work best with more than one week notice. I think alot of us who aren't really familiar with the stars and history of photography would need to do more research up front to figure out who we want to emulate.

But I really like the idea, gets my mental gears turning. . .

Great idea, but prolly get three entries (or umpteen shots of soup cans and significant others dressed as the Mona Lisa).

I'm gonna do the Dali's flying cats. I think it is called 'Dali Atomicus'. You can check it out here.

Philippe Halsman shot it.
"On the count of four Salvador Dali leapt and Halsman's assistants threw three cats and a bucket of water across the scene, whilst the photographer's wife held up the chair on the left. It took twenty-six attempts and five hours before Halsman had the result he wanted."

I think it would be a great challenge!

Honestly, I don't like this. If you know of most photographers, they did a lot of their work in the darkroom ... plus, they shot medium to large format cameras ... not digital. You can't duplicate an Ansel Adams on digital period. I would rather see people develop their own styles.

This would only be good for the folks who have studied art and photography. A challenge that would in essense exclude all beginners is not a good idea. Or was that the objective behind the challenge idea???
