We did not disqualify the two submissions that padded their images to fit the size requirements on this challenge, but only because we changed the rules on Tuesday. All rules in on the rules page are in full effect now, so make sure you're up to date on them. They will have a last updated date at the bottom.

Ok then. i have not even submitted my first entry, but I have to ask.

Does this mean you want all DCs set for 640X480 resolution or thereabouts? Is downsizing in PS appropriate? I saw some photos that look like double exposures, or 2 shots pasted on top of each other... is using layers in PS appropriate?
So I am uncertain when borders or cropping woudl come into play and what is and is not expected. Any clarification woudl be greatly appreciated, as now i think most of my idle time will be spent between here and Worth100. :)

Last I heard cropping and/or resizing are permitted, but borders and compositing are not.

Photoshop layers -- definitely not. Maybe I need to clarify the rules again. Example of a photo that uses borders:

This is what's not allowed.

What's a DC?

Submission sizes are set in the rules. You are allowed to crop/resize to meet those sizes. You are not allowed to pad (see above) to meet those sizes.

I guess my architecture challenge entry is guilty of this as well, simply because the picture from the camera didn't fall into a 640x480 ratio. I added, rather than cropped because I liked the whole picture that I'd taken.

Gordon, do you mean you stretched ?

No, Gordon's image had a white border down the right side, but we did not have this rule in the rules when Gordon won the challenge.

Is stretching ok? ie: not 1x1 ratio

Thanks for the clarification. Also, with resizing, i assume you mean resampling as in stepping to a new resolution, not stretching or squashing.

And DC meant DigiCam... sorry for any confusion.

well I did stretch this evening after a workout, but in this context I think I padded more than anything else. It was because at the time I couldn't work out how to crop to a fixed aspect ratio and the picture from the camera wasn't in a 4:3 ratio so it wouldn't resize easily. I've since worked out how to get photoshop to behave and do this more easily (use the rectangular selection tool (not the crop tool) and change the mode from 'normal' to fixed aspect ratio)
