First, I must apologize for letting this issue sit for so long. Things have been a bit busy, and since I hate writing, I tend to put these sorts of things off as long as I can.

That said, due to the recent poll results, endless discussions, and continual consideration of the issues at hand, no "across the board" change will be made to the challenge rules. The main reason, I think Konador pointed out, is that we just don't want to risk losing 36% of the voting population due to longer download times and screen resolution issues.

What you can expect, though, since it appears so many people want increased resolutions, is the occassional 720x720 challenge -- be it on top of the regular weekly challenges, on an extra Friday challenge, or mixed into a speed challenge. I think the results of Textures IV were fantastic and the challenge really lended itself to the 720x720 format.

FYI, here are the results of the two polls, broken up by those who participated in the challenge and those who didn't. I was surprised to see all four views so closely knit.

Very smart compromise and a great decision. Kudos for keeping *everyone* on the site in mind.

Thank you for using Members and Registered users feedback as a way of making a site decision. It shows us that our vote counts and that means a lot to us.
Great Work!

Makes good sense this way. We'll be looking forward to the extra challenges.

Excellent solution to go with the 'occassional' 720x challenge!

I like the compromise. Maybe DPC will be ready for a larger standard size at a later stage.

Thanks for all the work you put into this Langdon, and a very rational solution. Your "Final Statement" ought to put a lid on this contentious issue.

Great compramise! Thanks!

Good solution. You see it also affects those who habitually vote because the screen is more managable. Also in saving the bigger files, the resolution allowed is rather minimal to do the larger format justice. I am more for resolution than I am for size.

A downright Solomonic decision, oh Wise Ones :-)

I was one of the diehards that voted to keep the 640 X 640 image size. Anything much larger than that is cumbersome. However, I would have voted for a 720 X 480.
