Just Curious how everyone here uploads to their computer. Do you plug directly to your camera or use a card reader ? I've been using my camera so far.

Get a fast card reader and never look back! Your cam-to-computer connection is quite a bit slower than even a USB 2.0 reader, and tremendously slower than a fast FireWire reader (but for that you need a FireWire port on the 'pooter). I use the Lexar RW-019 reader that Rob Galbraith (of CF caard database fame) found to be fastest.

I use a card reader. Get rid of the cord from the camera, faster uploads and saves battery.

The only con about the reader is that I sometimes forget a card in the reader. I always have another card in my camera bag.

I have a Sandisk 2.0 Card Reader. Is that pretty much the standard speed ?

Card reader. The camera cord is a pain, and as slow as death.

I did it this way for a very long time, but I finally got frustrated about how much time it took to upload the pics to my computer. So I use a cardreader now and I'm very happy with it.

I upload from my camera. Sometimes I take a few shots, see how the settings are working, try again. I don't like taking my card in and out so many times. It is slow, but my battery lasts a long time and maybe my card will last longer.

Just beware: NOT ALL USB 2.0 READERS are created equal.

If it has, in tiny little print, the words "hi speed" written on it, then you've got a keeper. If it doesn't say those words, then even though it is USB 2.0 "compatible", you're NOT getting the kind of speed you could be getting. Time to upgrade. Even the "hi speed" readers are only about $14. It's definitely worth it!

card reader...I got it on special for like $9.99 a year or so ago...it's not USB 2.0, but it's way faster than my camera...I just click, drag, and go do what I gotta do for 2 mins and then come back.

The computer I have has the card reader built in. I just plug the card into the computer.
