I downloaded it for fun from the Corel site (a 60 day trial) to see if I could do some of the things susi does (she just offers a video with instructions for pay) and it is setting the default as something I don't want and I can't figure out how to change it. I've reviewed online movie tutorials and it shows me what to do and it has the default color as turquoise (even if I change it to white) and if I open a photo, it automatically does some weird texture that I don't want either.

Maybe the download was corrupt, but everything seems to work but the initial Open new document and open existing document.

Anybody else use it?

I think Bear_Music uses it

I've never used the Painter program (PSP 9 and PSP X), but it sounds like the Material Pallette needs to be changed? If it has one that is...

Best of luck to you. :-/

Well, I go to the pallette to change it and it shows to be ok, but then I hit ok, and nothing changes. Who knows. It' s frustrating though, because I can't start to learn because the beginning part isn't working right.

How about File/Preferences? Anything there that might need to be toggled on/off?

Anything in the fine print about certain features being disabled on the trial version? ;^)

Yeah, I went into color pallette preferences, set it to white, click on it, and it flashes right back to that turquoise color. The little tool bar on the left is that color too. I can't figure it out. Oh well.

Hmmm...well, good luck. Wish I could have helped. Has to be frustrating for sure.

Just click the undo icon on the tools pallette? I have pspx and haven't had that problem. There is also a "reset" in the preferences menu. Have you tried that?

Where is the tools pallette? I have looked at every drop down menu and see nothing. It shows to be white, when I show any color choice, but when I click ok, it is turquoise/aqua.

You have a bar that runs across the top? Click the icon that has a blue arrow pointed to the left. That is undo. Or use Edit>Undo or ctrl/z.
Also, to see what is causing the problem, click F3 to bring up your history pallette. Look in there to see what is happening right after the picture opens. Post what it says here. I'm off to work soon, but maybe someone else will be able to tell you what to do at that point.
Did you reset the preferences to default? I'd reset general pref, workspace to general default and dialog & last used settings.

She has Corel Painter, not Corel Paint Shop Pro. I had similar thoughts when I first read this post also...

WHen you choose open "new" document, it's giving you a brand new work surface. In the popup you get when you click "New" it allows you to choose raster, vector, and art media. Is the popup showing art media as the default?
If you want to open a photo, click ctrl/b to bring up your browser and then double click on the photo you want to open. It should open the picture and not do anything to it.

Sorry, I do sell video lessons on my DVD and offer whatever support is needed for my lessons but don't give support on the software used as I did not create the software.. Sure wish I knew that much about Corel Painter to help ya troubleshoot, but my brain cells are already blouted with editing techniques! Ha! Anyway, hope ya get it resolved!
