I think you had a tough decision to make they are All Stunning! Love your entry! My alternate may have been Dragonfly for the beutifully colored bokeh background

For fear of low scores I didn't enter but here are the ones I shot with the Challenge in the back of my mind. A few are post-processed beyond basic, so they wouldn't have made it in anyway but the thought and elements are there.

I really love both this one and the one of the butterfly... and considering how you did, I think you made a good choice :p

But seriously, I think they are all amazing photographs, and I couldn't pick a favorite, but I think the one you submitted fits the challenge best... the bokeh is beautiful.

outtakes: had a hard time choosing which color to use. i felt i had the liberty to choose any since my bokeh had the abstract "feel" to it

my entry did not fair very well. perhaps not the voters' type. (ahh. takes a deep breath :(

You think a 6.3 didn't fair well??!

It means he chickened out because of the controversy about what is/isn't bokeh that was raging prior to and during the challenge. ;^)

edit to correct quote spacing.

Obviously things worked out well for me. I only post this because I had another contender which had "traditional" bokeh; that is, the circles of light. However, I ultimately went with the ribbon winner because I thought the bokeh was "better".

Just to show the difference.

Mr. Hopper (Submission)

And now some outtakes. Hope I picked the right one for challenge. I scored better than my expectations on this one.

Comments welcome :)

sorry, i was presumptuous. felt really excited about this entry. i was dreaming of getting a ribbon actually. first day of voting and i realized my gutfeel was way unfounded. :0

6.3 is excellent, of course. It's the huge haloing on the right side that got you here. I agree with elsapo that the green one is better. (However, it looks a bit too saturated for my taste).

Keep trying. You'll get that ribbon with attempts like this.

Edited to note you already have 2 ribbons, so I guess I mean that 3rd ribbon will be by shortly...

I like the left outtake - of the 4. The blues on the d.fly match the background and the greens on the stem work with green bordering. Nicest coloring for me.

I ended up not entering this one and instead entering 30 second. Now I wonder how I would have done had I entered my cat.

I specially love the blue and green together. I would have given this a higher vote altho your entry didn't do too badly at all (you already have my comment). :)

I think that water drop really gives the little extra to your shot. So I like your entry a lot but I could certainly be persuaded to re-think my vote with your green version of the water drop choice.

Your ribbon is definitely a confirmation of the right choice you made. The other one has nice "circle" type bokeh but it's nothing special. The bokeh on your winner is really fluid and smooth with beautiful complementary tones to the subject IMO.

I always chicken out these days and pull potential entries. Low scores really bum me out...and yes the controversy was extremely annoying all around.

Shame you didn't. Your first 2 shots are really something and I particularly like the first one - both definitely much better than your butterfly and floral shots. Original perspective and lovely bokeh to complement too. But then, I always like your street shots. :)

I like the one on the far right of your outtakes best. Just better colour contrast, sharpness and tones IMO.
