Ok...this may be my first time doing product shots for money. I've done them in the past messing around for ebay and stuff like that so I am confident in my skills.

There is a private custom jewelry company (not gold and diamonds, but hand made stuff) looking to do like 150 or so product shots. Do I charge for time or do I charge per photo?

They want them for the website, I'm planning on using a light tent for the shots so if possible I'd like to give them one quote based on ammount of products + web usage; or something to that effect.

Does anyone have any suggestions here?

28 views and no response? Can anyone assist me with this, I'm planning on calling her tomorrow?

I've done this kind of thing before on rare occasion and just charged some hourly rate or fixed fee for all the work. I posted an inquiry like this as well and got quite a range of responses. I think there were some sites you could google for that have some info, but again, you'll see a broad range.

Good luck.

edit to add: I always ask what the client's budget is for this (and any other service) and scope the work around that. If your client says $500 and you think it's worth it, go for it. Whatever you mutually agree to is fair, IMO. (waiting for the photog union to beat me up now...)

Thanks art. I'll check around on the net and see what others are charging for this type of work.

I would personally charge in 1 of 2 ways. Either they give all the product to you, you bring it to your house and do it over a course of a week. For that I would simply charge them whatever I felt was fair on a per item basis. I'd probably charge 50 cents per piece, myself.

If they needed it faster, or wanted it done in their store or whatever, I'd charge based on time. Probably 50$ an hour.

I work with products a lot and we charge on the Daily Rate Basis. It depends on your skill how much you would charge (our professional studio charges up to 1500euro a day) and also how fast you would manage to shoot the product. Don't underestimate the work, you cannot deliever any snapshots to a customer. In my opinion, it is always better to start up with a higher price and then make a discount to make the customer feel special.
Defenetly charge per hour and not per item.

Cheers
