I have some pictures I think are excellent. How do I go about getting them out there to be purchased? Who do I even try to get to purchase them? The are mostly nature shots.

A good place to start would be to pay for the DPC membership, put them in your portfolio, and get them approved for DPCPrints.

Otherwise, start giving signed and framed prints away as gifts and start entering small local juried competitions. If there's a cafe or a bank that likes to exhibit local artwork, ask about it.

This timely tutorial by Ben Roberts (Konador) is a great start:

I agree. Get your prints up at DPCPrints and start spreading your portfolio around to friends, family and coworkers.

I know of a couple of photogs who sell prints at local, regional and national Christmas craft shows.

If you are interested in this ... you have to START NOW, in fact you may be too late for some of the bigger ones. You will need to prepare your best samples, send them in to be juried and then work on having enough stock to sell.

With the "juried" shows, many of them give you a booth for free, but you pay a percentage of all sales to them. Others charge for the booth AND ask for a smaller percentage of sales.

And depending on where you live and how big your community is, there may be fall and Xmas fairs that are not juried ... you simply purchase booth space.

The important thing to get out of this is to ACT NOW ... get on the INternet, the phone and find out who does the shows, when and how you get in.

Our state fair is offering a photography contest. the photo has to be framed and at least 18X24 framed? i think thats it.

The winner gets $7.00! Thats not even worth the drive to get there or the cost of the frame. I felt like I lost money just reading the ad.

That is just silly.
