I went for the obvious (my last name). Simple and easy for people to remember. Luckily the domain was available.

Penrod Studios <----- that's me! :)

I didn't want to use my last name because I knew I'd eventually get married and change it. So I decided on having photo or photography in the name, but that was so common. And then I was like, what do I shoot most? So I started thinking about weddings. And "kiss the bride" came up as the most common memory, so I wrote a few possibilities on paper and that's how PhotoKisses came about. I kept a few possibilities written on paper for a few days, testing out the name by saying it to myself as if I was introducing the business (hi, this is Kristina from PhotoKisses), or saying my email address, and finally decided that it sounded good and memorable and different.
And that's my long story about my name :)

When I was laid off many years ago I quickly got a job as an independent consultant in the IT domain. Needing a company quickly in order to seal the order and make sure I could get paid, I asked my accountant to get an "off the shelf" company here in the UK, where all of the administrivia is handled for you but you have no choice with the company name.

On that subject my accountant asked me what kind of name I would accept. In a mad fit of supreme stupidity I told him to get eh most stupid name he could find for an IT consultancy.

This is why my first company was called "SnugPlus Consulting".

People did not seem to forget it though!

Second time through I wised up and chose my birthstone as the basis for the company name, Carnelian Consulting. You live and you learn :-)

one of my first ideas for a web page was a picture of a yak saying something obnoxious. Every day, the picture would change and the obnoxious saying would change. And the yak would be black because it rhymes. Thus, the Black Yak! I never made that Web page, but my wife-at-the-time loved the name and said it should be the name of my entire website. And so it was...
