My friend wants to sell his images via a company that makes canvases for interior design companies and for businesses.

He has asked me (as he is new to photography) should he sell the copyright to the images or is it better to keep it and take a take of the profits?

A photographer (outside of work for hire) should NEVER sell away his copyright! You are selling all rights to future revenue. BAD!

Well, never say never, it can and has been done, just have to make sure you charge a LOT of $$$$ for them. I'd start the bidding at 20-30X what I'd charge for standard usage

True. Just like the rules of photography you can break the rules and end up with a good deal. Just be sure to know what a good deal IS before you do this.

If you are seriously in a position to be selling or licensing images in this price range, you might want to invest in some books from Nolo Press -- a reputable publisher of self-help legal and business books.

If anybody can shoot the shot then I don't mind selling the rights. If it's a one time shot I would never.
