Does anyone have any experience with this lens or any comments to share? I've been looking but have not been able to find any reviews whatsoever. Maybe its a fairly new lens???

Hi I have had this lens since early this year and I love it. I use it on my Canon 350D and it is one of my favorite lenses. The pictures are just great and compared to the price it gets a 10 on my scale.

To anyone that still don't belive that 3rd party lenses manufacturer can make top knotch lenses they should try out this one. It's probably as sharp as my Nikkor 50mm f1.8 at any apperture.

I use it all the time for low light like concerts, weddings, and other.

It's wonderfull.

But you must be ready for milimetric deph of field, even at not so close subject. This lens teatched me to pin point focus, because at f1.4 any more or less centimeter can mean a ruin photo or perfect focus. If you get soft results before blaiming the lens test your focus. :)

I love mine. It's smaller, lighter, and much faster than my big, clunky zooms. And 30mm is a "normal" focal length for your Canon 30D. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is a great lens, but it's not a "normal" lens for a 1.6X crop camera. If you want a normal prime, you really need 30mm (or so).

Bottom line: A 30mm prime is a GREAT choice for anyone with a Canon Rebel, 20D, or 30D. I'd feel naked without mine :P

Does it come with a lens hood?

Here are a some shots I took with this lens...

This was shot wide open (f/1.4) at ISO 800. I love the shallow DOF...

Stopped down to f/2.8...

Stopped down to f/5...

Yes, sorry, my post was a bit Canon-centric ;) It's a great lens for anyone with a 1.6 crop camera OR a 1.5 crop camera :)

The only negative thing I can think of is the distortion, which it has quite a lot off and some vignetting.

I correct for that in Photoshop with the Epaperpress PT-lens plugin. There is not a specific Sigma 30mm correction set. But I have found that the distortion correction for the Zeiss Distagon 28mm f/2.8 for a Contax SLR comes close.
With Photoshop 6 I could just select The Contax SLR and the lens, but with CSII it gives an error. So I took the Zeiss from the Contax SLR set to the Nikon D70 set and now it works again. Interesting that the distortion of the Zeiss and Sigma are this close.
For the vignetting you can use the slider.

At my pbase site there is a gallery with fullsize 6mp samples from the D70.

I bought one about a month ago. There was something wrong with the first one that I got. It was extremely difficult to get good sharp pictures out of it. I sent it back and the second one that came in is great. I really like it.

i used mine with some great results for my headware shot... don't let the 5.6606 score fool you, it's a wonderful lens...

i'll show you which one it is, but only if you promise to give me a 10...

*(btw... for those missing the sarcasm gene, that's a joke...)
