I personally feel a square crop simplifies an image, it's as if the eye can take in everything at once rather than moving around the image as it would in a more traditional format. |

Not PERFECTLY square but close.
P.S. Looking at it again ... it might benefit by being exactly square.

I think this would be my favorite square DPC image. It was my first entry here at DPC and it was an overwhelming welcome to the site.
 I like this one just because it is so bright and colorful.
This is a new one I really like.
A few more:
  
I have 14 square crops in my portfolio. I haven't really given any thought to why I use a square crop. I guess it just seems to work well with the image. |

I totally agree with you, as this is one of my personal favorites in my favorites.....

Good thread Shez - I never really thought about why use a square crop. Some just end up that way, some because the rest of the picture is crap. I think the square crop is just a little more interesting in some cases. Here are some of my fav square crops

i don't know why i don't use more square crops because i really like the look of them. guess i'll have to do more. i only have a few squarish shots in my portfolio.

I also love the square crop - used it a lot in the 30 day macro challenge.
