Some contenders for my nude IV shot..

Compositionally, I felt my choice was the best, although I had to do a lot of skin smoothing to deal with goose bumps. I guess I just do that to models... or it could have been the cold air :-)

I was going for the brown and am glad i picked the right one but here was my other choice. i was afraid some one would give me high votes for humor.

I did the whole thing in such a rush, I missed this one while going through my shots. This was actually my first shot!
Here was my entry.

In retrospect, not sure my choice of entry was the right one... The lighting i tried to get just like that proved rather unpopular :(

Entry:

The contender i decided not to go for, which i now regret:

Outtakes:

So, did i make a mistake in entering the shot i did?

I think you took the right image.
Perhaps changing the colour on the one you took would have helped.
I think your outtake is nice, but the light is very unflattering on the breasts giving them a not very flattering shape.

Here where my outtakes.
Posted in another thread but what the heck.

riot, I had preferred this one.

Peter, your entry is great, but this might have made it on the front page

Leroy, this would definitely have been my choice

Here is my outtake

vs. my entry

The outtake might have scored better, some commenters missed her face in the entered shot. On the other hand, I think the composition is not as good.

Totally missed the challenge. Wondering how this might have done.

Okay, not really an outtake as this was my submitted entry. But funny story to go with it. I got a 5.5, not bad for the entry. Many liked it but I had nearly 30+ comments regarding the harsh shadows.

So I wanted to tell the story behind it. My wife is 3+ months pregnant. So I thought what a great opportunity when the nude challenge arrived. Especially because my mom bought me an Alien Bee strobe so I could photograph my wife over the pregnancy. This was going to be my first shoot using my studio strobe. I was excited!

Now I don't have a studio set up yet. I am working on clearing out the garage to use as a home studio. Anyways, at present I am using our bedroom. I just hung the new backdrop I bought a couple of weeks ago on the wall. The dresser is actually a baby changing station/dresser for those who didn't get the relevance.

So I do the shoot. Wasn't quite happy with the shadows. So I went and adjusted the position of the strobe. Still no luck. So after the shoot I go to put everything away and notice the strobe is off. I ask my wife "Did you turn it off?" Her response, "Nope...it's been off the whole time. I wondered why you came over and adjusted it."

Now mind you, before you think I'm completely daft. I am shooting in my bedroom. There is a small nook in the bedroom and that is where I have the flash strobe set up. However, it's behind a wall so I can't actually see it fire. I know a flash went off because I saw a bright flash. But nothing to make me be able to seriously distinguish from my on camera mounted 580EX and the Alien Bee bounced off of an umbrella.

So I was just exasperated. I was like "You knew it was off and you didn't tell me." *slaps hand to forehead* I exclaimed "You were a photography minor too...how could you not have told me."

I tried to take a few more afterwards but by this time my poor pregnant wife was so tired and physically exhausted I had to give up.

Hence....the harsher than desirable shadows...

And now you know....the rest of the story

thanks. I had some comments that my best of 2006 entry had the worst border ever on dpc and I wanted to beat it.

This one happens to be my favorite entry... After doing a double take I felt a mild tightness in my chest. Yep... good sign!
