This is not really an outtake but rather the finished version of my entry, I tried to get it in but missed it by about 5 seconds... I really think this would have done better.

Heres one of the out-takes from my Grape Bouquet shot. They are a bugger to slice thin ;-)

I actually preferred this one but the focus was not so good for DPC voters.

My preferred pepper shot, but figured the border wouldn't be a hit. :-)

Falc, those thinly sliced grapes are cool!

My Outatkes -

I actualy preferred outtake #1. I think its the chef in me and I like to see plate presentations from an angle to see hieght. But for the challenge my wife said the straight down perspective would score higher - more artistic. I love my wife.

my outtakes (i guess i chose the worst of 'em all...)

Timfy, I think you chose well (the golden fork really sucks)

I'm thinking I should have entered this shot but I have only recently purchased Photoshop Elements 5 and I didn't know how to adjust it in time to enter. Have managed it since. (Had to clone out light that was shining just at the top of her head and a little into the hair but was major distracting)

This was my original entry:

Don't know that the other would have scored better but you never know.

Thanks Timfythetoo

I just worked out how to do it. Took me a few tries but I got there.

Yes timfythetoo

I agree with your wife. Much prefer the top view.

As I said in the description - This was a REALLY hard choice because my model was so good and the lighting set up I had was wonderful. Plus I knew all the hard work I put into painting the bedroom accent wall would come in handy in the future:-)

I had a choice between three that when put together told a story. The first was a smiling one that was hopeful for a good day of selling.

The second had a pleading look that spoke of "Please good mistress, buy an apple".

The last was this one, the girl is tired & saddened that no one bought her apples at the end of the day. This is the one I entered in the challenge for I thought it held the most emotion.

I need some feedback, please
my challenge entry scored really really bad

It's not in focus but I liked it that way because I thought it creates the impression of movement

Would you please give me some suggestions what's wrong and how to get it better (besides from the focus)

Do you think those outtakes are better?

I was in a dilemma to choose between the above and finally submitted

Which one do you like better?

Definitely think the brighter one is better. When I voted on it, I loved the colors and composition. I sat and looked at it for quite some time, trying to decide if it was too soft or if it was just me, but then I decided that it was a bit too soft. The edit has just enough more pop to make it an excellent image.

Most people commented that the color of the oranges was "off" but I actually post processed them to a "burnt orange" color intentionally. Guess I'll know for next time not to get unrealistic with the color!

Most of my outtakes involve an orange bouncing of the vase and out of the side of the frame, or missing the water entirely, or being caught in mid air, just before hitting the water.

Why did you pick a black background ? What do you feel it brings to the shot, compared to a different choice ? Why did you light it the way you did - is there other ways you could light it to get a different feel ? Are the colours as vivid as you wanted them ? Could that be improved by different light ? IS the subject arrangement/ shape the way you want it ? Is it the splash that you wanted, or could the water be in a stronger arrangement compositionally ? Is it cropped in the most effective way for what you wanted to show ?

Hopefully some things to think about.
