Entry
Outtake
the outtake is the full capture, I think it was a better picture, though the drums are a bit too cut off at the bottom of the frame, so I didn't enter it...

Amy, I remember voting on your picture while the challenge was up and before it was DQ'd. I liked the whole setting and the idea behind the image.. the one thing that bothered me at the time (and still does with one of the outtakes) is that her basic bow hold and violin hold are so technically wrong. Don't know if she does play the violin, but the holds suggest that she doesn't...it's just one of those things..you know when you watch a movie and the actor is playing the piano (or an instrument) and you wonder if they're really playing or not - and in some instances it's so obvious they're not....well that always jars for me.
Dunno - just something I wanted to comment on. From your side the image is fantastic though - maybe your model let you down :-) ?

Not to pile on, Amy, because it's a beautiful picture, but the bow and violin are in the wrong hands. That really threw me when I was voting.
Not my picture, but the fiddle's being held correctly:

I know nothing about playing the violin so Amy's photo didn't seem "wrong" to me. Curious, do left handers hold the violin like that as well?

Hey Karen, everybody plays the violin(viola, cello, bass) the same way. In an orchestra, everybody in a particular section will move their bows the same way at the same time. It would be chaos if some string players played right handed, and some played left handed.
Both hands get a good workout playing a string instrument, so there's no advantage for a left-handed person to play the instrument backwards. Of course, that doesn't stop well meaning parents from asking... |
