speaking of tone mapping. I did some on my free study and it failed miserably. Can you guys take a look and tell me where it went wrong? I'd really like to know. I have a pretty thick skin, so you can be brutally honest.

Hi Marc,

I would say there's not a lot wrong with the picture or the processing, but it lacks a wow factor that's needed for a good scoring free study.

It could maybe have done with some more dramatic lighting to really bring out the shape in the mountains, although thats not something you can control :0)

Just my opinion anyway

Chains 5.7

Now where the hell do you find insects to photograph?
04/09/2007 12:27:22 PM · #204
Under a rock? :)

I don't know, we still have about an inch of snow.
04/09/2007 03:23:35 PM · #205
I got a couple of insect shots today actually, only realised half way through i was shooting in RAW!! But got some good ones once i'd switched to RAW + JPEG.

Still need to get night shot as chains is at a really disappointing 5.55 at the moment
04/09/2007 04:07:41 PM · #206
My chains is sitting at around 5.4 which, frankly, is about where it should be. My kid has a much better shot that is sub-5 at the moment. Bah to the voters!

All is not lost, however ... contre jour is holding steady around 6.7xxx, and just picked up a remote trigger to try some more night shots this evenin!
04/09/2007 04:31:08 PM · #207
My contre-jour is at 6.1 and chains is at 5.8 and has been rising all day so I hope that's a good sign.

Hey you guys....I don't know how I am gonna come up with an insect. How about the rest of you? Any ideas? I moved a rock and there was some of those roly poly things. Do those count? LOL

I won't be participating in the insect challenge. Waiting on the open challenges to be announced instead.

Same here. No insects for me. Just not really my idea of fun picture taking. And besides, I'm in slump and having a hard time coming up with anything.

Chains just broke 6.0000 yeah!!!

WTG Nikolai! I'm still around 5.4 with mine. Haven't heard much from those Spartans ... perhaps they're chains are weighing them down. (Not that I've got much room to crow!)

I'm gonna shoot insects if I can find some bugs. Live ones, though, no museums for me. Gives me another excuse to break out my old manual focus macro again. At least the no crop rule won't hurt me .... I hope.

BTW great job on Changes kevin!

Loved that crazy perspective on your shot.

well done to the team on the contre-jour!! I was browsing through the shots and saw half the team within a few pages!!! Excellent work and some great shots.

Superb top 10 EstimatedEyes!

Chains is on an ever disappointing 5.55 and NightShot has started badly at 5.33 so I may be another non contributor this week :0(

Congratulations to both teams for such wonderful shots...I can tell you I did everything I could to vote GoldenEye past DPC7! I gave you guys a 7 average in contre-jour, and have two of your team's photos on my first page of Contre-jour! Congratulations especially to EstimatedEyes and Fredahenry for top 10 finishes and personal bests!

Thanks Jason! It was fun! Congrats to your team!

Hey guys, nice job on the first smackdown. Sure, we lost, but a 6.2 average will be pretty good most weeks. I'm really going to enjoy the little burst of extra motivation league play provides.

A little bit of luck doesn't hurt either ... I knew exactly what I wanted to shoot when they announced the Contre Jour challenge, since i walk by that fountain every day on the way to and from work. Brought my camera with me and only took about 15-20 minutes to find the right angle for the shot.

Back down to earth this week, as I expected:
