It's been within 0.03 for three days now. But you 7s are in trouble. I'm going to pull in 200 9s before this thing is over.

Snicker.

definately - good luck to you! I don't care where I place - this has been the bestest experience yet on DPC - all the great comments - real ego booster... would be nice to see my photo on the front page.

We've got a race too close to call as of Sunday Night, with hotpasta posting a 7.3496 with 246 votes, running neck & neck with Lonz at 7.3348 with 233 votes.

Can't wait 'til Tuesday's photo finish!

For all you in DPC land who haven't seen these ribbon potentials, time to jump into the Night Shot challenge and git votin'!

After rating all the pictures I decided I was really going to comment on the lower scoring ones, and in my eyes there are many. Sorry.. I feel so negative but walking outside at night and clicking a picture does not make for an appealing shot. Night shooting is a favorite of mine and it takes lots of practice to get things properly exposed. I guess I get frustrated sometimes when it appears some people just enter to enter without thinking about the picture.

Am I alone in the way I feel, does anyone else feel this way?

I just finished voting last night and I would have to agree. There were a lot of below average photos. I saw lots of photos taken without tripods, many taken without considering composition (read lack of symmetry in a bad way) and others taken of subjects that are just plain uninteresting. There were also many that in my book don't count as night shots, like sunsets. I too enjoy night shooting and I take is seriously. Apparently not everyone does.

That said, there were a few great shots and it is going to be hard to guess the top places, though I think I have my guesses figured out :)

hmm. seems like my just above 7 score will at best be a top 5.

Congrats Indridi on your 7+ score. Looking at your homepage, I might just guess which nightshot is yours and easily gave that entry a high score!

Looks like we'll have ribbons in the sevens at the Tuesday Nightshot photo finish.

Odd that the recent "Chains" challenge only posted 6.6, 6.5 and 6.3 for its ribbons. Who knows why? Apparently voters felted a bit more chained and constrained in their votes.

I knew I shouldn't have picked the blurry one..

Well, apparently you didn't like the thinking I did about my picture, which is sharply focused and well exposed, but not the usual view of my subjects. So taste also figures into it. :)

But you're not alone, apparently. My score has been sliding. Still a very good score, but doubtful to show up on my profile:

taste figures into it, as well.
The one thing I have is a Eizo 24" Color Edge monitor,
I said earlier that my entry is getting slammed but every comment except one is great. I dont fret about scores too much.

Thank you. However it fares it will almost certainly be a pb however you look at it. So I am pleased,

So in the last 2 votes my average has dropped by almost .03. That would equate to votes of 3 & 4 or 2 & 5 or 1 & 6. I am averaging in the high 6's, so it looks like a troll vote. Losers, find a new hobby.

Maybe they just didn't like your shot? If you'd been averaging mid-4s and then received two 7s, would you call them overly generous twits or assume they're the only ones who recognized your genius?

mine has been doing the same thing. But I've given bad scores to winners before... dont take it too personally.

I bet you did not call those 9's and 10's you recieved troll votes. They are pretty darn high. Way higher then the average !

Just a thought.

This was my first night shot and I spent 3 nights doing all different types of shots. I entered a more alternative style as I wasn't able to get many other good shots. (I need a remote shutter control). I was happy with the one I entered and this challenge made me learn about using features on my camera and to experiment outside of my comfort zone. If mine is one of the bad ones then I am sorry but for me joining dpc is about learning and being forced to shoot to a theme and learn to use my brand new camera.

If you put this much thought into an entry, I am sure it was not one of the ones I am talking about. If I did vote it low, I would have left a comment saying why.

Monique, THAT is why DPC is so great. Don't apologize. Enter what you like. And learn, learn, learn.

From what I understand, your going out three times, learning the features of your camera, and experimenting outside your comfort zone are all reasons why the owners created DPC. That's why our contests are called "challenges."

So congrats! Regardless of score, it sounds like you got a lot of it.
