Once the challenge starts I will post what I was going to post. I was just not happy with it one bit and it wasn't the look that I was going for. So let me know what you think once I do post.

Thanks for starting a new thread. Good idea to keep more people from looking to join the team.

Hi guys ... have we decided who will be in charge of signing us up for the next season? I won't be around much until about May 4th ... out of the country, no access to the internet ... when we decide I'll PM that person with my info ...

Tell me what and how to do it and I will take that off our hands.
04/23/2007 12:51:51 PM · #7
yeah..if not I'll do it also. Just don't know what info we need yet.

I am in Rule of Thirds and just had a disappointing Insects. Hopefully I learned something for the next minimal edit challenge.

I did okay but not great in insects (about 1/10 below my average, with a score of 5.3XXX), and I'm contemplating thirds and bubbles (but I doubt my bubbles idea will work today as it's going to rain, and I need to be outside with blue or partly cloudy skies). Thirds is most likely to be "it" for me, but I'm still choosing and editing (though I'm pretty sure I'll do triptych later this week, as well).

It might be useful to get critiques/comments from each other once a challenge has ended (unless of course you commented while it was still anonymous). Is everyone comfortable with this and with offering and receiving "strong" critiques? It wouldn't be very helpful to me to have "nice shot" comments on a shot that scored 5.3, so I'd be looking for, "the subject wasn't quite bright enough" or "the subject wasn't quite big enough" or "the DoF is too narrow" etc. etc.. I have a thick skin in this regard, but I don't want to offend anybody with how I comment when being intentionally critical.

I would also like to suggest that we think about sharing shots with one or two team-mates before we submit to a challenge, but that those team-mates not vote on the shot once the challenge starts (this will avoid the problems that are taking up the SCs time right now). I sometimes need the eye of another photographer to bring things I'm missing to my attention, but the "not voting" once you've seen an image rule needs to be strictly followed.

I'm all for commenting after a challenge. I never take anything to heart unless it's a comment thats obviously meant to evoke anger....(ie this shot sucks..were you drunk when you took it)..lol. As for sharing shots before a challenge, I think that is only asking for trouble. I'd prefer to just find out who's shot is who's at the end.

I'm entering thirds, I have to chose and edit my shot at lunch today while at work (shhh...don't tell my boss). I'll also be entering the free challenge, but free challenges don't count for WPL or anything.

245 people entered into the rule of thirds challenge !!!!! DANG!!! That's more than in the free study so far. Come on now..give me a chance...lol.

It looks like I may have to withdraw unfortunately. Feel free to replace me and I will take my chances if things turn out differently..

OK.....I have changed my mind twice on my ROTIII entry. Probably a mistake. Hoping for the best. Anyone else entered in something this week?
04/25/2007 01:01:05 AM · #18
I wanted to enter the bubbles but I was busy so I couldn't get anything in. I knew once the ROT hit 180 I was going to enter that. Besides I bet a good 60% of them aren't even right. Just someone taking a picture to enter something. I would like to see a perfect 10 get a DNMC for the simple fact that someone just entered and didn't even know what the F they were doing. Then again, I'm also sure that if they have a 10 chances are they DO know they are doing, hahaha So anyway how about them Yanks? hahahhhaaa.

I guess we probably need to make our own cards. Pascal has a lot on his hands right now and we are coming down to the end of the month. If we need to make something we need to do get on it.

Pascal, if you would like to send me the .PSD file I can finish the cards OR guys I have made ones already that we could use.

Post one of what you have already and let's take a look at it.

Guys I sent an email to a friend asking if they would like to join, If they say yes it would REALLY help the teams average. I'll let you know something later today.

And here was my version of the trading card.

grrr...I entered ROT and it's not looking pretty. I actually choose my photo because the actual center of focus lines up on a third. But I have a feeling that it's going to get a DNMC simply because of the play on the challenge. People be looking at one interpretation of the thirds not realizing that i hit it and played with it also.

Nothing to worry about Rob, just a lack of time and inspiration ATM.
