That's our Art, always good for a nice laugh. We'd be lost without him.

I had a life-long friend, native to London, with two or three doctorates from one of those prestigious English universities. He and his wife raised four kids, and even when the grandkids came along, he could still spout prodigious amounts of Dr. Seuss, from memory, and with great glee.

I'd say Dr. Seuss' appeal is international.

It's still early in the week. This one will take some preparations for people to shoot.

Can I ask a really dumb question??

Most of know his books... but what about his quotes? He has some really really great quotes and I have some awesome ideas. Is anyone going to be voting down because it isn't a book title? Shouldn't though... it doesn't say book title does it?

I'm in. This one was sooo easy. (Of course my entry will probably come in last, but then, 4th isn't bad.)

This gives me a chance to use a silly prop that I just HAD to buy, because at SOME point I'd have an excuse to use it! :)

I decided not to do the challenge.
=/
I'm not imaginative enough.
I was going to put a hat on my cat and try to force him to sit and eat green eggs.
xD

I'm planning on doing a quote too. I recommend you use the quote as your title and include in book title as well, maybe in parentheses.

Can't tell what the voters will do. I gave up on trying to figure that out a long time ago. Some voters immediately look for a reason to vote an image down. Go with your heart and let the chips fall where they may.

My shot is done,
its in the drawer,
But i'm not sure
how it will score.

I will reshoot
if there is time.
Its true, DPC
I've lost my mind.

Just because you're not going to enter doesn't mean you can't still go through with the activity. :)

Well, I might still go through it.
And risk getting sliced like a tomato by feline talons..
Now that could be a funny picture..

Don't know any Dr. Seuss books and haven't had the time to look for them so I decided not to enter - and, for the same reason, have decided not to vote either.

Now you're thinking!

Green eggs and ham I will not feed
to my cat who'll make me bleed.

Sorry to hear.

...are we required to announce when we are not planning to participate in challenges? Cuz I've been extremely derelict if that is the case.

Just to cover my bases:

I will not enter the upcoming "Sports"
But I may vote and make comments of sorts

I probly won't enter this months Free Study
Must spend more time with my little buddy.

I may not even submit to Dr. Seuss
But could change my mind if I so choose.

Are we having fun yet? :P

Many of Seuss' books work on several levels, and I'm hoping entries that look beneath the surface won't get hammered.

Illustrations about greed and selfishness (the Grinch), prejudice and consumerism (the Sneetches), obstinance (the Zax), nuclear proliferation (the Butter Battle), environmental devasation (the Lorax) or facism (Yertle the Turtle) would make great subjects for the challenge, but I fear they won't do as well as a picture of your cat in a hat.

All I'm saying is if it don't have whiskers, it's DNMC! ;-)

No, you are not required to - but it's OK if you do ;-)

...and yes, we are having fun - aren't we...??? :-D

Unless all the entries are Cats in Hats, Foxes in Soxes, or Green Eggs and Ham, then there wil have to be some entries that are not as literal to a Suess title. I mean, think about it, his characters aren't real and his words are non-sensical, but as EstimatedEyes points out, there are messages in all his stories. I hope we see some clever takes on the Suess messages. Otherwise it's going to be a pretty repetative challenge, IMO.

I'm in and my cats, foxes, and eggs are none the worse for wear! But my Lorax and Thneed are pretty ticked off right now, and the Who's are getting restless.

Good luck all!

It will be like any other challenge - the farther you stray from a literal or commonly known interpretation of the topic, the more DNMC oriented votes you will get. And again, like every other challenge, those that stray far and pull of an extraordinary result are still rewarded by the voters.

Oh damn! I thought this challenge was all about feet! ;)
05/03/2007 06:58:39 PM · #125
You're thinking of Dr. Scholl - a different kind of Children's book author:

"The growth on his toe was clearly humongous
That was no wart, I believe 'twas foot fungus!"

from "Your Feet Really Stink" by Dr. Scholl
