Right - a little home-from-home until Langdon sets up the DPL team forums. This is public reading so no giving away our secret weapons.

Hi. So...what's our strategy?

Aren't you in a team already Ken?

If not, you can join.

edit to make generous offer.

Um... yeah, that's right. I am already on a team. My mistake. Please don't think I was trying to spy on the competition. ...cuz I, uh, wasn't. ...spying, I mean. Nope.

...edit to look for this so-called generous offer...

Okay; top of the agenda. We have one more place to fill. I am struggling to find an appropriate candidate who is a) on-line, b) half-competent, and c) compliments our eclectic group.

Any suggestions?

Apart from Ken, of course.

So; a bit about me.

PaulE - Paul
I am a South African working for Deutsche Bank in Singapore as an IT Project Manager. I was involved in WPL4 with Davy ( NerdJNerdBird) in Team Pop 'n Fresh (which collapsed). I enjoy landscape and nature photography, especially when on my travels. I seem to have a knack for street-photography, which gives me a buzz every time I find the courage to get out there and try. I am very eager to learn indoor studio and macro work – every time I try my effort falls apart (and DPC votes me down). This is probably the main area I will be looking for help on – how to control lighting indoors.

How about the rest of you?
05/08/2007 12:15:40 AM · #12
My name's Anna.
I'm from North-Eastern Siberia, Russia. I have no experience of WPL, but I'm eager to take part, and promise to keep submitting. I don't know yet my favourite kind of photography (kinda newbie), but I have a thing for clever setups (like scalvert has) and slight use of Photoshop. I own my very first DSLR with kit lenses, and I'm going to purchase one better lens in May, so I expect some improvement in my pics' quality.
I hope and wish to learn more from my teammates.
BTW: I'm online (UTC + 9) 9:00 - 18:00 Monday-Friday. This means, 19:00 - 04:00 Sunday - Thursday EDT, official DPC time.

Hi, I'm Gary ( eqsite) and I'm a DPC addict. Oh wait, this isn't a 12 step program is it?

Let's see, I live on a horse farm in upstate New York with my wife and 9-month old daughter. The horses are my wife's -- I work as a software developer. I'm excited to be on a team because it will force me to shoot for more challenges. I feel like I've learned quite a bit here and I'm hoping to learn a lot more. I love landscape and nature photography, but I'm keen to get the courage up to do more candids and portraits.

Thanks to Paul for putting together such an interesting and, I think, competitive team. And thanks to Anna for doing such a great job in such a short time on our logo!

We seem to be a bit of a technical/IT literate team. Gary is a software developer, Ralph is an engineer, Davy is studying physics and computer science, and I am 'in' IT (my background is development, and truth be said I shouldn't have left). Caillie is currently working on the project of our first child - due in early July. Anna; What keeps you busy when you aren't shooting?

I'm mainly on-line from the office Mon - Fri 08:30 - 18:00 SGT (12 hours off DPC time), and from home in the evenigns and weekends. DPC forum involvement is requirement driven - that is to say I don't dabble too much in the social threads, but do read the techy stuff. I'm ploghing time in now to get the team off the ground, but hope it will be self-maintaining once up.

odd is good. Anyway, we need someone with a genuine artistic orientation to rescue us from getting over-excited about how apertures work.

I'll take a bump for the team.

Well, if you're the odd one, then I guess that makes the rest of us the unevens. Oh, did I mention that I have a dreadful sense of humor ;) Sorry!

I'm mainly online during office hours as well, M-F 9:00 - 18:00 EST. I'll probably pop in and out during the evenings as well. I lurk around most of the threads for entertainment purposes (DPC is better than soap operas), but don't contribute much.

If there's anything that I can do to help with the time you're putting into getting the team up and running, let me know. I've been traveling the last couple days, but I'm on my way home today (about to leave for the airport) so I should start having a little more time tomorrow.

trying to become poor as a professional "Visual Artist"

Married 13yrs, two girls 5&8 --

online nearly 16hrs a day through work & machines at home (though i woke this morning & my connection is gone .. aaagghh... run home & have to deal with that .. )
dpc is a addiction , yes, distraction from mundane crud at work ..

Hi everyone.

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you for inviting me to join your team.

Although I haven't been very active on DPC for the past couple of months, I have been taking plenty photos, and I've been itching to compete again. I'm really looking forward to being part of a league for the first time.

So let me tell you a little more about me...
I'm a South African, just like Paul. But unlike Paul, I'm still based in South Africa - Johannesburg to be precise. (I think it's quite neat that the members of this team are far-flung across the globe: should allow for some interestingly different perspectives to come through in our collective body of work).

I work as an accountant, but don't let that scare you... I do have a creative side :-)
I've always taken photography more seriously than any of the other interests I've pursued (that can be evidenced from the amount of cash that inevitably gets sunk into photographic equipment). I also write, and play guitar, but photography is definitely my favourite way to express my creativity (it could be because my clumsy fingers are better at pressing a shutter than working a guitar fretboard...)

I'd love to get into sports photography at some stage (I'm a big rugby fan), but at the moment I'm doing mostly studio work. I've recently received the last pieces of my new studio setup (umbrellas and stands). I'm looking forward to using it all in some upcoming DPC challenges.

Oh, and the other thing that I'm very passionate about is my pet chameleons (someone did say that you have to be odd to be part of this team, right?)

So, where are you watching the gamnes this weekend? They are really late in Singapore, but it's so good to see SA finally do well in the Super14.

Thanks for the offer. No really need though - most of it is just getting us all comfortable with each other.

I see that 39 team have now been finalised. There are enough users in the free agent pool to make up a further 11 teams. So, it seems there was no real need to rush to get finalised in the first 24.

My wife (Caillie) is currently making up her mind on whether or not she will be able to make time for submissions what with the looming birth of our first child. Due date is first week of July, so I am inclinded to believe the first round will be over before the kid comes along. If she decides that she can't make the committment then we will need a 7th team member. Looking at the team I think we need soemone from South America. Any ideas?

Note to team: please rescue me from degenerating into a mushy father with no subject matter imagination beyond the child. I'm counting on you here.

Traditional South African Saturday afternoon for me: I'll be watching the game on TV at home with some mates, with a braai going on in the background :-)

I'm actually a Lions fan, so I didn't have the motivation to go stand in a queue for 3 hours to get tickets for Loftus, alhtough I'm sure the atmosphere will be amazing there. I'm glad the SA teams have done well: it bodes well for the World Cup later in the year...
