Just wondering what software everyone is using to organize their photos. Pros? Cons?
Thanks

Operating system and folders.
Pros: no other software needed, nothing happens automatucally or in the background where you don't know about it, no change to data or EXIF.
Cons: need to know how to create, name, and organize folders. |

I use the Canon software that came with my camera to break things down into folders automatically:
Year-
-Month/Day
Picasa is a good way to view them, and it is also a good way to auto-rotate them if your camera has a rotation sensor. Picasa also backs up your photos before rotating/changing them so that is nice.
But I'm also not a pro photog, nothing I'm doing is for money so I'm not too worried about the originals getting mucked with when I bring them over to the PC (except when I'm doing a challenge, and then I'm shooting in RAW anyway..) |

I also use Picasa. It's very easy to use and includes some very basic editing stuff. |

i'm a HUGE fan of aperture. it's outstanding for library management, key words, sorting, and exporting in various ways. it has great automated and manual backup processes to back things up locally or to external sources. however, it is mac only. |

Picasa is a great tool. It has a very good red eye reduction tool, and you can open the images into other editing software.
I really like the cropping tool too. |

Lightroom for me. One you have alot of control over your photos in lightroom. You can also adjust the light ballance and alot of other settings if you shoot in RAW. gotta have it.
