Is there a minimum number of entries that need to be submitted each week or each challenge from every team? Every member?

Looked around to see if there was any info regarding this but the closest I got for a number was the 4 mentioned when calculating a score.

TIA!

Shawn

I don't think there's a minimum but from a stats point of view, the more team members that participate the better the odds of getting the highest average for the contest.

I don't believe there is a requirement at all Shawn. But...the less entries your team has, the less possible scores to draw from.

Didn't the WPL work like this: If less than 4 people submit, the average is still divided by 4. So if you have 3 people scoring 6.5, the average becomes (3x6.5+0)/4=4,875.
Don't know whether this is still valid for DPL.

Yea it will take the highest 4 scores from the team...if you only have 3 people enter then one of those scores will be a zero.

of course if you have only 2 entries and the both score 8's...... ;)

Okay, and that score is based on the 3 challenges that end that week - one Member and two Open - of which each of us can only enter 2? So, with 7 teammates, 4 of us could have 4 entries in one challenge (this would be the minimum) or all 7 of us could enter a total of 14 images across the 3 challenges that week (for the maximum). Is this right?

So what is defined as a week period? IOW, from which days is the average score extrapolated? I came up with a few ways you could possibly do this, but it would be nice to know which method is being used!

I'm assuming that the new team score would be updated every Wednesday at 12:00:01AM EST...

Correct.

I think I get it, but I'm not sure I like it. A team with seven members can have all seven enter the weekly member's challenge. That's fine.

But for the two open exclusive challenges, in the best case scenario, four league members could enter one challenge and three the other, so at least one zero score per week is unavoidable, right?

Does that mean then that each team must strategize and agree who will enter one open challenge and who will enter the other? Otherwise, you might have six members enter one and only one member enter the other! That's a lot of zeros to factor in.

And what about the teams with only five members? Even split as evenly as possible, that's one "0.0" in one open challenge and two "0.0"s in the other, every week!

Weird. :-(

Hi Citymars,

Since people can only enter one Exclusive Open Challenge and not the other, it's not a 0 to be factored in.

For example, a team with 7 members can all enter the Sunday member challenge. Whatever their scores are, the top 4 count toward the team average for the week. If they also choose one of the Open challenges to enter, then the top score between the two challenges *for each photographer individually* is the one that *may* be counted for the team.

Think of it like "chances" rather than "obligations." If a photog only enters the member challenge, then that is the only individual score to be evaluated for the top 4 for the team. If a photog enters two challenges, then they have two chances to get a good score, only one of which will count towards the team average, and only if that score is one of the top 4 scores compared to everyone else's challenge scores.

See?

Edited to add: the only time a "0" gets factored in is if there are less than 4 entries by any team member per DPL week.

Hi, L2.

Wow, I had it wrong, eh? Thanks for your explanation. I feel much better now. :-)

From the DPL FAQ:

"The 4 best scores from the best 4 team members are averaged together to make the Team Score for that week."

According to this wording, only the scores from the best 4 team members (and not the worst 3) will count. From everything else I've read - this is not correct. Please confirm. Thanks.

The top four scores for the week are averaged.

Only one score from each team member can be used in this calculation.

The top score for each team member is looked at and then the top four out of that are averaged.

Right? Or have I confused things more?

You are exactly right, Colette.
