I would like to thank everyone who was able to make it today. The weather was perfect and it was a wonderday to be at the zoo. I'm sorry some of you weren't able to make it, but we'll definately be meeting up again in a few months.

Speaking for myself, it was really great meeting you all. Sorry some had leave early and we got seperated from another. All in all though - it was a great day.

Pictures will be coming soon....

Who was at the zoo meet? Can't wait to see the pictures.

It would be nice if people here in San Francisco/North California could meet up and do the same.

louddog, stdavidson, rcrawford, BNC and myself.

We might actually head up your way, maybe next year. Was there once before about 4 years ago and loved it. Can't wait to go back.

Working on the pics now....

Nice pics.
What lens did you use?
Some are a little soft, did you sharpen them in post processing?
My suggestion would be a little higher shutter speed and/or a tripod.

I really like all the lion shots.
2055 parrot shot is great.
1925 giraffe is also excellent.

My best shots, of 40 taken. I had a great time, and it was good to meet a few people from here. I look forward to doing it again, but next time we'll put a leash on Steve .

I want to thank Tina for setting this up. We all had a great time and I think we got some nice shots.
I'm looking forward to our next outing!

I, too, want to thank Tina (tfaust) and Daryl (louddog) for setting up the Arizona DPC meeting at the Phoenix Zoo.

It is always nice to talk with people with similar misplaced obsessions.

However, I am still trying to figure out if I got lost at the Zoo or if tfaust and louddog just ditched me in the afternoon after we got separated. :)

My images were not DPC worthy so I did not submit any for the National Geo challenge (For some reason animals are not cooperative with me) but here are a few of the 157 shots I took:

I was, however, inspired to go out the next morning to take images for the "Roadsigns Re-revisited" challenge and did submit a shot for that. That one is special because it is the first anniversary of my very first DPC challenge. I hope to get a warm fuzzy by having someone make a DQ request on it.

Thanks again Tina (tfaust), Daryl (Louddog), Roger (rcrawford) and Brenda (BNC). It was great meeting all of you and I look forward to meeting with you and other DPCers in the future.

Arizonan DPCers rock!

Good Morning Steve!

I think we all got 'lost'... in the afternoon the crowds got pretty thick, and the location we were at was the first exhibit near the entrance plus it was near the main food area. So, it was much harder to spot each other than earlier that morning. :-) I still feel really bad about that, btw...

I think you have great shots! I really like your giraffe ones, the Ostrich, Roger and the duck... well heck, I like all of them! Those are my personal faves though :-)

Hi Terry,

I didn't do a lot of sharpening... I just did quick post processing to get them online.
I used a 400mm lens handheld.

I really appreciate the comments ... Thank you :-)

Ahh, these are the 400mm shots. :-)

I particularly like the monkey (?) one, 1951. I like like the sunlight off the fur.

Hehe, the very first orangutan pic is excellent. :-)

I bet you appreciated that 400L.. I can't imagine what the F/2.8 version must be like! :-)

Thanks James, Paul for the comments. :-)

That 400mm lens is now on my wishlist - I just loved it (it was rented for the weekend).

1951 is one of my favorites and I almost submitted it to the NG challenge actually. I will be doing that one as a print and buying it for myself.

I almost rented the 300mm f/2.8 with a 1.4x teleconverter - but now I'm glad I didn't - it would have been too much lens for this zoo.

My hubby and I are now planning a trip to San Diego - I'm addicted to zoo photograhy... lol!

Steve you really should have entered, I think the giraffe, the turtles, the flamingo group shot and ostrich all would have done well. Nice work!

(Looks like you got even with me; I also prefer to be on the back side of the camera!)

Great pictures everyone. I wish I could have made it. While you were out shooting, I was painting. We are getting our house ready for an on-slaught of guests in about three weeks.

I really like the colors in the macaw shots. The lion shots are great too. Looks like the animals were active. Sure beats the summer when they are all hiding. Looks like some changes have been made at the zoo since I was there last. The jeep looks new.

Thanks Tracy! :-)

Your Hollywild Zoo looks so great! It looks like it's even worth a trip there from Arizona! :-)

Tina,
I wish I could have been there. Sorry again that I could not make it. The pictures you took look great and it is nice to know that we could get together and have fun. I like the picture of the group together also. Sorry to all Arizona DPCRs, wish I could have met you.

Sorry I couldn't make it also , but , work is work . Anyways , how about a spring flower shoot ? Supers , Picacho , Lakes ,?

Hi Kevin and Paul,

I'm sorry you couldn't make it too!! But I do understand. There will be a spring get together - I was thinking the Dutchman Trail in the Superstitions (starts at Peralta Trailhead) would be perfect. It's not a terribly difficult hike and last year the spring flowers were incredible. There are a lot of hedgehogs, Ocotillo, Cholla, Prickly Pear and a whole mess of Saguaro there. My Pbase portfolio has some pictures of the Dutchman trail (not in bloom though).

I hope we can meet up in the spring :-)

Edit: Oh, and a great photo opportunity is coming up in the Spring - March there is the Civil War Re-Enactment at Picacho Peak.
