First, thanks a lot for the last set of comments. They helped bunches.

Now how bout this one?

How would I make the horses stand out from each other and the background?

Nice composition. However, I feel that the blown highlights and high contrast really make it hard to separate the horses. Without being able to see any detail in the whites or blacks, it's hard to make out where one horse stops and the next starts.
