D300
Backup to the homepage for other info.

EDIT:

Hmmmmm, the image looks a lot like the obvious fake that has been available for several weeks.....

edit:
Got the D3 and D300 url mixed up.

So the rumours were all true - well maybe not all of them...
Cool stuff!

Looks like the 51 af points was true and I figured that would be a lie. But looks like the ISO200 is true also and one member here was highly disappointed with that. Looks like all you have to do is -EV and it goes down to 50. I was glad to see the mPix stay at 12 on the FF D3. Maybe the new sensor will be competitive with Canon noise wise. Not that it matters to me as the D3 will probably retail at 9000 US. Unless my lottery ticket hit last night I'll never own one. ;)

New body or new glass. New body or new glass. Oh the choices.

Glass all the way. You will see better "improvements" with better glass than a better body.

Thats what im thinking too. I need a wide angle lens for sure.

Thank god they kept the AI support and the standard 10-pin terminal. I am quite disappointed that the minimum ISO is 200, as I was hoping the next in line would have a 50 or 25 but never dreamed I'd lose the ISO 100 of the D200.

The 14-24 2.8 looks interesting, but as an infrared shooter I was again disappointed in Nikon as they left out a gel filter slot. I noticed that lens manufacturer’s seem less worried about filtration, I guess assuming that users will be using digital editing techniques instead.

But my biggest disappointment was introducing a full frame sensor in the D3. In the past Nikon has been brave enough to go against market forces when a new technolgy is really not needed.

Other than that way to go Nikon1

It's US$1799 - same price as the D300
the 24-70mm f2.8 is $1699
400mm f2.8 $8,799
500mm f4 $7,899
600mm f4 $9499

The D300 is not too much of a surprise... but the D3 looks amazing!

The main thing I can see them working at canon with is this:

DX lenses still work!!!!

I wonder now that D300 is out, D200 should get cheaper.

Some wishful thinking, but I'm right there with you!
Hotpasta - what's your best price? ;-)

Nice new toys, but obviously way out of my price range.

5000 bux is still out of my price range. I was considering selling all my stuff when I saw the Canon 14 bit A/D. Then the D300 comes out with 14 bit *AND* the same AF module the D3 will have! Oh well, I'm gonna have to stay with Nikon. All the Boo Hooing I'm hearing about ISO200, well in LO range it does ISO100. Bjorin Roslett (sp) indicate that the noise performance on the pre-release samples was unbelieveable. He indicated that you had to zoom to 300 percent to see it at ISO 6400 and it looked a lot more like film grain now. We'll see.
The D300 will have a metal grip now, so no more chinzy, crap, plastic grip. Of course it'll probably sell for $599 US.
Uses the same eln3a batts in the camera but can use the large eln4 in the grip. My guess is this camera will be an even bigger battery hog than the D200. I'd better get my D200 on eBay before the hoard! Then I'll be without a camera for a year as one thing Nikon can never get right is supply. Sez available Nov 2007. Well, I suspect it will be July 08 before you'll be able to just order one. Well exciting news all around. Canon fires a shot across Nikons' bow. Nikon brings her carriers into the wind and launches 300 dive bombers and torpedo planes.

I was just kidding...will keep the D200 as a second body...maybe...

Why are people concerned about the ISO not going below 200? - Is it because they want to use ISO100/50/25 to adjust exposure? Or is it because they think it'll be less 'noisy' than ISO200?

Hrm. That D3 is seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerious.

Almost enough to get me thinking of jumping ship myself... hehheheheheh...

Dual CF card slots.... wow.

And I was just starting to hear trickles of info about 32GB CF cards making their way to availability.

That'd be fun hey?

A quartet of those and a pair of 120GB image tanks... scary stuff!

Love the 12MP in full frame. Glad to see Nikon make the switch to CMOS.

Gapless microlenses.... *drool*

I think it might happen.... in a few years that is... heh.

The D3 is crazy!
12.1MP
ISO 25600!! What the f...
51 AF points?
11FPS, etc.

I want one.

There is not concrete reason for me... sometimes I use it to control exposure when I don't want to alter depth of field, mostly I just use it because there's no need to go higher.

ISO 200 is fine. I shoot at 200-400 most of the time to get higher shutter speeds and rarely at 100. If the noise is low at 200, that's all that matters IMO.

Full Frame? Hmmmm...should I???

Speaking of ISO, why hasn't Canon or Nikon introduced an ISO priority exposure mode like the Pentax K10D?
I would find that extremely useful.
In this mode one command dial changes ISO while the other controls either shutter speed or aperture (changeable).

Not a switch, D2X, D2XS have been CMOS all along. Good to see them provide a FF sensor for all those who wanted it. I try not to want things I can't afford. LOL

Nikon calls it Manual mode. ;)
