The Nut Job

The Nut Job.. I love animation movies.. but this one was just a bit more boring to me than entertaining wise...
Sure, it had its funny parts and over all great animation, but for the most part, leave it to the kids to be entertained more than anything..
Usually, I think highly of animation movies and I am so glad I did not pay to see it in theaters... Still, not the worst movie ever, but not the best either..
3-10 - An incorrigibly self-serving exiled squirrel finds himself helping his former park brethren raid a nut store to survive, that is also the front for a human gang's bank robbery.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
I totally agree with everyone else that has seen this movie before me.. I enjoyed it more than what I thought I would have. 7-10 A def. good movie to rent if you have a chance. I found some parts of it slow though, but once the story started moving, it was pretty entertaining.

Non- Stop=An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline transfers $150 million into an off-shore account.

I thought this was gonna be one of those typical movies which was very predictable.. I mean really, how many more airplane movies can they make ? Instead I was wrong and the twist had me going throughout... like who you think it was that was doing it, it was not! It was truly a great suspense and guess who kind of movie, another non- chick flick with tons of action and mystery of who actually was the person that was the terrorist.. a great must rent.. 8-10

saw guardians of the galaxy again with friends in cheap theatre, holds up well, 8.5/10 on subsequent viewings.
as for new movies, saw dracula untold and thought it was well beyond my expectations. fans of "bram stoker" will not like this; fans of "nosferatu" will also not like this. The movie is a setup into a new world of Universal Monster Movies, remaking and coordinating them into a cohesive large-scale enterprise, the way Marvel has started to do, and DC is also now coming around to. This sets up Dracula in a way to flesh him out into a complicated character, a man who is relucantly forced into his position by others, and played as a pawn in a larger game.
The world itself is a character here, and is well designed, the supporting cast do their jobs in stereotypical roles, but the whole purpose of the movie is to set Vlad the Impaler up to be an anti-hero, not the villain.

I give it a solid 8 on its own merits, though to compare it to its more established predecessors, it would only pull in about a 5.5 or a 6 if they were sitting at a 9 or 10.

I saw the movie "Chef" with my wife, and it was really fun.

Sex Tape
This was a cute comedy.. not as provocative as I thought it would be and it is a must see rental for sure, but the cast is amazing and we laughed and laughed out of all three movies, we laughed the most at this one.. Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz just really played well off from each other and it was really funny.. one of my favorite comedies of the night.. 9-10 ( watch the extras and the bloopers too is a must on that one) The only nekkid things we saw were a lot of butt shots..considering what it was about!
w.imdb.com/title/tt2883512/?ref_=nv_sr_1]Chef
lol We just got done watching Chef ourselves... , very family oriented and a cute comedy..
For me it was kinda a slow start but after it got going it was a good entertainment.. this movie was not one of my fav. comedies but for clean fun entertainment. A sure solid 5-10

Walk of Shame
I really enjoyed this comedy... it had some twist and turns and the poor girl in the yellow dress..Steven Brill did a phenomenal job of writing and directing this one.. not one of your normal story lines either... 7-10

Being sick hasn't helped but chillin on the couch curled up with hot apple cider, warm blankets and just not doing nothing.. priceless

We also rented Good People as well, will be watching that tonight

Update:
Good People
IF you are an action, suspense, thriller person you might like this movie...
For me, I was done with it half way through because it was so predictable not leaving much impression to give to the imagination..
I found it very shallow, generic and it did not really do any original stories or new lines.. just one of the typical drug dealer kind of movies... However, it is still watchable and being somewhat of a crime kinda thriller the killings were good with the graphics. I found it kinda boring in a lot of parts and it was hard to watch because it could not keep my attention well so I cleaned and we cooked dinner in between.
Not much else to say about it, just there..2-10 for me..I was really expecting some good suspense kinda of movie but in the end I was really disappointed because it had very good actors but a very poor script...was expecting it to be more fulfilling but naaaa, you can pass this rental on by and its the old same ol same ole kinda thing..One of those movies that you can rent when you watched everything else

"Snowpiercer," a dystopian film starring Chris Evans, Ed Harris and John Hurt. It wasn't perfect, but found it to be a fantastic piece of allegorical filmmaking.

Hercules
A sort of cheesy action movie, but the action was pretty good.

Into the Storm
Actually liked this one a lot - pretty decent characters, good enough storyline and lots of impressive effects and the documentary style with all the cameras visible is pretty cool.

22 Jump Street
Some pretty good laughs, but the best part is at the ending credits with the parodies of the never-ending sequels of various themes.

The Expendables 3
Pretty cheesy like most action movies, and the storyline seemed a bit forced, but it was pretty engaging and entertaining.

An American Hippie in Israel

Good soundtrack, good on location cinematography, laughable acting, and an awful script. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was entertaining, but I'll never understand why Jackson resorts to amateurish (think a junior higher making a home video) handling of key scenes (like the death of the dragon in this movie, and the fall of Gollum in LTR3). Like the other movies, this one had great scenery, and does a credible job of depicting grand kingdoms fallen into ruins. The choreography in the battle scenes was very impressive (elvish army especially, dwarvish army).
The several decapitations in the battles bothered me because of the real life actions by IS / Taliban, etc.
Not sure the movies do the books justice, but they're at least a good faith effort. And they do capture some of the grandeur of Tolkien's work.
I'm pretty forgiving of movies, so take the rating of 6/10 with that in mind, and that I've been a Tolkien fan for years.

The Heat 9/10
We watched this off Netflix last night and were practically laughing our asses off the entire movie. Word to the wise though, the swearing is very excessive and over the top.

Citizenfour

I'd say the film complements the book "No Place to Hide" by Glenn Greenwald. Pretty unsettling, but definitely worth watching. Presents Edward Snowden's reasoning regarding his exposures.

i saw a 70mm version of 2001: a space odyssey yesterday on the big screen. Stanley Kubrick has long been my favourite director, but the only time I have seen this particular movie was many years ago on a tiny old CRT television, VHS of course...

Seeing it yesterday immediately launched it into the top spot on the list of my all time favourite movies. It was the most mind blowing thing I've ever seen.

We studied this in a film class around 1970 or '71 -- we had to rent a special anamorphic lens to project the wide-screen image from a (distorted) 16mm print.

There's an excellent book on the making of this movie -- some of the sequences involve combining over 20 images (no Photoshop Layers then!). The author speculates that the only reason it didn't win the Best Costome Oscar was that the voters couldn't believe it was actors (dancers, actually) in monkey suits ...

I've used it as inspiration for at least three entries here ...

Equalizer
Ok, I loveeee Denzel Washington anyway, and I do not think he has a bad movie like ever.. he did phenomenal in this one and it took a while for the movie to figure out whom he really was.. always had you guessing. The action was great, violent, sure it was, but not your typical bad guy/vs good guy, a true tale leaving you thinking throughout the movie, 9-10 an action thriller loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name which I think was done very very well. Great entertainment and thriller/action One of my favs from him yet.

Let's Be Cops
Very cheesy movie, some times funny other times its like.. really? We did have a few laughs but for the most part I am glad it was a rental and not in the movies itself.. Kinda if you are in the bored mode for something to see.. 5-10

Gaurdians of the Galaxy
Pretty typical Marvel Sci-Fi, entertaining though, effects were really cool, story was ok. Nothing wow but just a regular good movie. Ok in my books, but I prefer the other Marvel Shows. 6/10 .. hubby enjoyed it more than I did LOL hence the 6

Maleficant
Being a sucker for Disney movies, I did not care too much for the cartoon of sleeping beauty, I LOVED this version much better, and Angelina Jolie did a supurb job and pulled this character off well.. I totally highly enjoyed it and the story was great, special effects were awesome, I really enjoyed this old tale put to the new spin of things. If you like Disney this is a true thing to watch and enjoy. 8-10

Lego movie... hubby wanted to see it, I fell alseep during it... its good for little boys, not adults LOL Very boring in my books, a couple laughs before I fell asleep, hubby agreed, wasn't what we thought it would be like.. 0-10

How to Steal a Million

8/10

A light romantic comedy... but a light romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, both in their prime. And it has a heist, too!

"The Interview"

Watched it an hour or two after release. Nothing unexpected here - funny, but in a very juvenile/slapstick sort of way. Racist/Insensitive/Juvenile/Etc, all of those.

I'm still glad I watched it, but honestly, this is probably best saved for when you're on vacation in Colorado and higher than you've been since high school, I imagine it'd be hilarious then, but there are probably still better choices for that situation. Basically, don't watch this unless you just want to see it 'because'..

The Wolf of Wall Street

Long, but good. Notable for it's record number of f-bombs, this was actually a good story of gross excess, conspicuous consumption, loose morals, looser women, and all such things. Totally worth watching, but don't bring the kids, nor anyone particularly sensitive to language and behavior that is shocking to all but the most incredibly jaded and cynical among us.

9/10

The special effects were insane. I would argue, sometimes even better than now. Sure, CGI is a lot cleaner and polished, but cgi has a certain look that let's you know it's not real. Almost like it's TOO good looking. Just like how many modern landscape photographs are beautiful and colourful, but you know they don't actually look like that. 2001 on the other hand almost looked like a space documentary. Sure you could kind of tell what was a painted background and what was a small model, but it had a very realistic film look overall.

Knights of Badassdom 8/10 If you are into stuff like D&D, LARP or know anyone who is, this will be hilarious. If not, maybe you should look elsewhere. It's cheap and cheesy, but campy and fun.

Unbroken

The book was really good. The movie, well, it was good, but too long. Too many scenes just seemed to be overly drawn out with this music that seemed to drone on instead of supporting the scene (I assume for dramatic effect) that just did not need to be. I would put that on the director. Overall it was well filmed, script and acting was good, again, a bit too long for the story. Just my opinion. Looking back, I should have waited for the DVD or Netflix release.

Yeah, it wouldn't have been nearly as notable if it were a made-up character. Even if the character was named something else, but 100% based on the real Kim and everyone knew it, would have been a much less popular movie, if all that free publicity hadn't come about.

Gone Girl
A bit long but full of plot twists and drama. Especially that bit near the end. Didn't see that one coming at all; won't spoil it, movie is definitely worth watching but it earned the R rating.

Inherent Vice 9/10 Rambling and confused, but what else should you expect from movie made from a Pynchon book? It's spot on.
