How to train your dragon 2 - 9/10 - as good as the first.

Gatsby - 8/10 - the modern music was a bit out of place but the movie was good and acting was as well.

Divergent - 7/10 - predictable but entertaining.

Grand Budapest hotel - 8/10 - typical Wes Anderson film. Enjoyable to watch.

Locke 10/10

Tom Hardy is the only person you see. One of the best performances I've ever seen.

Nightcrawler 8/10
Very good. Creepy. Great acting by Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton.
Offers an eye-opening perspective of videographers, who are ambulance chasers/ crime journalists. Makes you think about us, as photographers.

Gone Girl

On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne reports that his wife, Amy, has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

A long film, 2hr 30mins, but the plot keeps you locked and focused. Ben Affleck is maturing into a very good actor. 8/10

This week, in order...

Trouble in Paradise (1932)
All The President's Men (1976)
The Exterminating Angel (1962)
Earring of Madame de... (1953)
Seance on a Wet Afternoon (1964)

I resfuse to rate them. They were all great for different reasons.

Walk among the tombstones

Private investigator Matthew Scudder is hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife, This is a different ho hum kinda of a murder movie, there are a few twists in it, but not that exciting to give it above a 6.

Lucy
This is the weirdest, most creative, interesting movie I have seen yet. Lucy is just one of those movies that make you go wow or what, that's wild. A different story line which was great to see and totally things having be totally unexpected as the movie went on. This is a 8/10. We were quite entertained. Morgan Freeman did a great job as always

Did I really stay up last night until 11:30 p.m. to watch THIS?!!

A movie of absolute and perfect logic...Giant Robots are required to fight Giant Monsters!

I don't think a score exists for this movie...*dainty yawn*

6. I, Frankenstein

Only for connoisseurs of dumb, like myself. I could try to describe it, but it must be seen to be believed.

For the full experience, read the book first. Not the comic book.

John Wick
Hubby and I really, really loved this movie! Wish I saw it in the theaters.
Not your typical story line and we were on the edge of our seats through the whole thing just waiting to see what would happen next.
His wife dies and leaves him a last gift, a dog letting him know not to stop loving.. Theives come in steal his car, kill his dog and the revenge is on. As the time goes on, the theives find out who John Wick really was and is, A very good suspense-action movie. This is a true manly movie, not a girly movie there was no sex, no romanace except visions of him and his wife and memories he had which was sweet. Mostly tons of gun shooting, killing and blood. (I am not into tons of violence, but it was the story line that kept me interested in it.) How the poeple was killed and the fight scenes were very entertaining as well. The end was even better which left a smile on the face.
A true movie must watch, but tons of shooting and blood (don't watch if you are not into that). Almost a 10, another imprissive thing about this movie was how it was pulled off with really not a lot of diolog chit chat or BS. Just enough to let you know what was going on to keep the movie going smoothly. 9/10 This is one that will be a part of my movie collection

You gotta admit that was awesome special effects though. And the sheer idiocy of it is actually admirable IMO. :-)

Also, where ya BEEN, Mae? (Waves wildly)

Great flick. There's not a dull moment in that movie. I can pick it up anywhere and stay hooked till the end.

Watched this on an airplane. It was the best offering they had. It was "ok", and I follow you on the "could try to describe, but must be seen" part.
I'd never read the book, but I can see how it would FAR surpass the movie.

John Wick was also great! a definite 8.5 from me.

Recently watched Slither (mid 2000's horror directed by the same guy who recently did Guardians of the Galaxy), it has some truly good moments, but you have to be in the mood for a campy horror movie to truly appreciate it. 7.8/10
Slither was followed up by Bubba Ho-Tep. That will always get an 11/10 from me. Heee-ya! Bruce Campbell as Elvis (or is he an impersonator who got too caught up in the role?), and Ossie Davis as J.F.K in a retirement home, fighting off an Egyptian mummy. Good times.

I thought the flashback was dull, but I agree about the rest of it.

Once Upon a Time in America (1984)

A brilliant film that was never nominated for an Oscar in any of the categories.

Puppy Bear!!!! *hugs*

Seriously? OK...I've decided to forgive you for your poor movie taste!

Now...here's a movie worth seeing....good special effects, addictive story, and the yummy Chris Hemsworth!

Need I say more?

RUSH = 10++++

Big Hero 6 - laughed out loud a few times and Baymax character's mannerisms, predictable story but very enjoyable nonetheless, top notch animation and some very exhilarating scenes.

If you're a fan of kaiju and/or mecha films like Godzilla and Super Robot, it's not that ridiculous. Granted it lacks the moral, anti-war message of the original Godzilla, but it's great fun to watch and fits right in with that type of film.

You're right about that. I love these kinda things. I've also been a SF junkie all my life. I guess what bugs me is, there's just no REASON to build a weapon to destroy monsters on the model of a gigantic human being. If they'd made it be, say, a humongous spider or something, with a human in a cockpit on the head, I coulda' got more behind that :-)

Of course it doesn't make sense from the point of view of making the optimum war machine. It makes perfect sense in a world of Jonny Sokko and his Flying Robot or Ultraman. Really though, the reason to make them human in shape is so that it will "humanize" the weapon for the audience and thus highlight humanity's battle against the inhuman monsters. That connection wouldn't be there if it was a guy driving a giant war crab.

The Way (Martin Sheen) 9

There was drama, humor, sadness, human connection, and beautiful scenery of "El camino de Santiago". (Not a ton of action nor a fast-paced plot, and I'm usually all about a plot. But the story of several humans from all over the world connecting during a long pilgrimage in Spain I found really satisfying.) Found on Netflix.

Dumb and Dumber to

Who can not love these movies, now, the funny thing is my hubby and I were laughing since the start till it finished. We actually thought it was way better and much more funnier than the first movie. My son on the other hand thought the second one was way worse and he actually stopped it in the middle of it (hes 22) so, I loved the fact of this movie that it was almost perfect timing for the second version of this movie to come out with that huge time lapse in between, could not have planned it better. Seeing these older characters come back was just hilarious and they look like time hasn't changed at all and they even found the original mutt cutt car! Kathleen Turner was even in this movie and then a few other famous people did some short skit show ups like Bill Murray, Just one of those feel good, cut loose, relaxing, laugh free movies. If you loved the first one you will def. love the second one. If you want to laugh, its a must see 8/10

Jump Street 22
Not as good as the first and there were some laughs, but for the most part an Okay kinda of movie but not the best but not the worst, if your bored rent it.Not much to boast about here. 4/10

Born into Brothels
A documentary done by a photographer who spent time living and working with the children in this community based in Kolkata (Calcutta). Fascinating and some excellent photography done by the children. I found this particularly fascinating as I spent 4 1/2 months during 2014 in Kolkata. 9/10 from me.
