OK, All 3 challenges, or just the one I got the 6.5 in? Incidentally, oddly enough, the 6.5 made top-20 but the Textures 6.3 made top 10... Major lapse of suckage this week for sure, but I got a couple 4+ images working now so back to normal for me :-)

It's just for the challenge where you have the top score, but if you (or anyone else) gets the weekly top score a few times in a row, we might have to bring back the special punishment of commenting on all of the Team Suck entries for that week..

Yep, all Team Suck entries for the week. Oh boy, I'm looking forward to reading them.

Just the one you got the non-suckage award for, although feel free to do more if you feel motivated ;-)

I don't think that is the rule -- not for "Momentary Lapse of Sucking". For the individual challenge high score, that's true, but for the biggest weekly lapse you have to comment on the whole week's collection. That's why it is particularly severe when a Free Study is included in the lot.

I stand corrected. You can tell I have never won one of these.

I'm about to come in with a 6.3+ in "Stupid Gifts", giving me 3 finishes over 6.3 in a single week. Are you gonna stick me with one of these major penalties? (I need to be prepared).

Get those commenting fingers ready, Bear. You're in serious doo-doo. :-)

Let me recorrect.. It used to be that the weekly top score had to leave comments for everyone, but this group grew so quickly that this punishment was deemed too harsh. To lighten the load (and not discourage challenge entries), the top scorer for a challenge comments on the rest of the entries in that challenge, and the top score for the week is for bragging rights.

Outside of Melethia and Bear_Music, there aren't many of us in that "top score of the week" group. Let me re-recorrect myself here. The last 5 weekly top scores have been won by 5 different people.

I think it's fair if one person gets that award 3 weeks in a row, they should share their photographic insight with the rest of us by commenting on the Team Suck images for that week.

Thoughts?

Highest scorer of each challenge has the awesome privilege of commenting on all fellow Suckee entries in that challenge.

Highest scorer of the week (three challenges, usually) has Bragging Rights (whatever that may entail) and is encouraged to comment on fellow Suckee entries in contests other than the one they got their high score in (since they'd have already done that one.)

If the highest scorer repeats the feat and takes the honors more than two weeks in a row, he or she is not allowed to enter an in-focus shot in the next challenge. :-)

OK, maybe not that last one.

Dang, I got a lot of commenting to do. But my streak is at an end, both images in voting now are in the 4's :-)

I think the alarms have quietened down since we jerked back into suck mode, but I was wondering about team novice being OOBIE jury three weeks in a row. Should there be a max. there? Maybe with the offending non-suckers being obliged to sit out and/or a random or rotated other team sharing/assuming the honours. ?

I don't know. For awhile there, the Butterflys won week after week. Goes in cycles, I think.

Novice does get a good share of the voting privileges, it's true, even without this current streak, but as Deb says, it does cycle out eventually.

Also, that's why when we changed Yappies to monthly, I made the voters for it come from a random selection of Team Suckers - gives some people a chance to vote that are on teams that don't often "win" the week. (or at least, they get a chance when I don't forget the voting due date and post the winner ahead of time - geez, I feel bad about that, Mary! :) )

Maybe the OOBIE vote can be the winning team plus a random member from each of the other teams. I know that makes Karen's job harder, though. Or, and it would make Karen's job easier but kinda defeat the "winning team" part a bit, but anyone on Team Suck who wishes to vote on the OOBIEs could email Karen their choice?

I was thinking the same thing, re: voting. Since I joined, I have voted every week, seems "wrong" to me. I recognize I'm a newbie sucker, but I'd be in favor of voting going to the runnerup team if the same team wins 2x in a row.

R.

And yes, I need to make time to go comment on all those challenges...
01/07/2008 11:37:14 AM · #119
well, I don't know - it could be a fun "lottery"-style addition: the winning team still "wins" and gets to vote the OOBIE, but then there's an additional member of TS that "wins" the drawing for the week and gets picked to be a participant. That's an interesting idea - after the winning team is announced, I can throw the other members' names (not on the winning team) in a randomizer and see who "wins" and then send a ballot to them, too. Probably should make it voluntary, though - maybe have an initial call to ask people if they want to sign on for the "random drawing" and then use only those names. I'll think about it some more.

But as I said, it might be a nice addition, something that doesn't detract from the winning team's real "win".

Team Novice certainly isn't winning because of me! I'm the one that holds them down.

I think that applies to me - since joining I have entered few challenges, and when i do I truly suck! That said, I have one in Free Study (that is doing suprisingly well) and one in Fire that is certainly sucking!

Okay, one down and two to go: all suckage perspectives have been commented to :-)

a simpler way to shake things up is to never let a team vote OOBIEs twice in a row. So the team that votes OOBIEs is the highest scoring team that did not vote last week.

Another solution is to gather votes on the highest *and* lowest scoring teams.

Karen is the Decider on this, in case there was any doubt.

both very good ideas...

ok, I'll give it all a think and see what I can come up with

***it's all the Novices fault :P ***

How about the highest team and another randomly selected team? Assign 1-6 to the other teams and roll a die.
