I can't for the life of me figure out why the view count of this photo of mine has skyrocketed recently. At the time of posting, it's the 666th most viewed photo on this site (out of hundreds of thousands). It has 10,414 views, and has been up since the 2004 Touch challenge. But the really crazy thing is that the last 4-5000 views have come in the last 3 or 4 months alone!

Only 2 other pictures of mine (out of 35) have over 1000 views, and one of those was a blue.

Why is this one suddenly getting so many hits? What's drawing people to it? I didn't put it in the nude gallery or anything. I'm thinking someone might have a link to it, for some reason, on a semi-popular website or something. Is there a way I can check that? I've done Google searches, but I haven't found anything that way.

Thanks,

Mark

P.S. Sorry about the gross factor of the photo.

I just did a google image search "Fire ant bites" and it was the first image to be listed. BTW, looks really painful. :(

It did hurt.

But is there a sudden interest in fire ants I don't know about? If that's where all the hits are coming from, why the sudden surge now? It must have been on Google Image search for a long time since it's been here since 2004. (How old is Image Search anyway?) Maybe it hadn't been on the first page until recently. Hmmm, that could explain it? Mystery possibly solved. I suppose thousands of people a month could be searching for fire ant bites.

I saw that it was there, I just didn't think that would be the cause of the sudden surge. But maybe it is.

Whoa, I just saw this statistic: "The total number of people bitten each year is 20 million!" Yeah, I guess some of those people have seen my foot recently.

Could be a google image search for "Hideous Swollen Foot" as well...

:P

I say burn the fire ants - it seems appropriate.

It may be that someone with a medical/homeopathic/whatever website has used this image to illustrate the effects of the fire ant bite? That could account for the spike.

Hey Mark, I don't know if this will help you or not but a few months ago I posted a photo of my broken foot on my blog...

Within hours I had literally hundreds of views on this particular post! After a good look at the stats for my site I worked out where all my viewers were coming from...

There is a very dodgy german website where people with...erm...plaster cast 'fetishes' can go and post links for other similarly like minded...erm...weirdos! Basically there was a member on this particular website who trawled the internet searching for images of ordinary and famous people with broken bones and then posted the link to the images for everyone else!

Maybe there's a 'Fire Ant Bite' fetish site somewhere in this world ;o)
