I liked this as I thought it had oomph. I don't know why but when browsing my images from that trip it just leapt out at me. I know I got a lot of comments about the pool not being close enough but the pool wasnt my main focus, i just had to title it something and that came to mind.

Hey, I gave it a 7 'cause I thought it was one of the most interesting images I've ever seen.

Didn't think this would do that well but wanted to throw something diffrent out there and I had a plan eye wanted the viewer to read the title look at the picture think what the heck and then notice the title on the tip of the leaf and used a strange frame with thick bars on the side to help keep the eye traveling up and down the picture. then desaturated the picture a bit to try and give it a old feel,( but may have made the picture feel to drab and boring?) After posting it it kinda occured to me that most people voting only look at a picture for a few secounds and this picture takes a minimal small amount of time to absorb. the texturs of the aloe plant against the bare white metal of the washing machine was pleasing to my eye. If I could change one thing it would be how the plant is placed in the frame. Perhaps placing it lower. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated........rt

For EstimatedEyes - I played with yours a bit. If this bothers you, let me know and I'll delete the post. I used a strong levels adjustment to spread the histogram all the way across, used overlay blending mode, then upped the saturation by abou +15. Flattened that, made a duplicate layer and applied a bit of diffuse glow, then reduced that effect by 50%. Then cropped in a most DPC-unfriendly way with the bird leaving the frame.

You were robbed. I gave it a 9 - so well balanced and just a graceful photo. I couldn't really see anything wrong with it...

Entry
Some really liked it (especially the processing). Others thought it was overprocessed and too contrasty for the scene...

Alternate edit - less contrasty and slightly wider crop. This is the one I planned on entering, but I decided to ask someone who doesn't do DPC...

Here's mine, and, yes I like it :)

I like the blue tone, I think that it gives it a feeling of "cold"

Since the day was overcast, the color version did not turn out good at all.

Ok - I didn't get in before the results were posted but I love my shot Sooooooo much and I really had it figured for at least a 6.something or other so I would like to play as well.
most of my comments were along the "cute kid" line. The only really critical comment was that the mess was unattractive - but that was sort of the point of the whole photo.

Can someone tell me why this only just managed to beat the out of focus undersized bunch at the back end of the race?

Here's mine. I still like it but do understand the reason why it got a low score. My emotional feelings toward the image got in the way of better judgment. Without the face showing...
It was an emotional moment when that little bird was rubbing it's head up against that branch. There was a feeling of connection between the two that was quite touching.

I'm off to work in a few so will be back later today to comment on some of the images.

ok, here's mine. it seemed people were generally underwhelmed. except don - i got a posthumous red! woohoo!!!!!!!!!! i thought it was a nice, quiet shot, the texture of the light, the shadow cast by the table leg, the blurry sunlight through the curtains...

o, clair is french, meaning pure, simple, clear, light in colour, straightforward (my, that's a really long word, isn't it?)

I really just loved the moment that this was taken. Its another eavesdropping voyeuristic sort of photo, just a little slice of life that no one is supposed to see. I can see the points made by voters, but I purposely wanted him to be in the shadows.... what he is doing is sneaky after all. If he was in the spotlight it would have changed the entire feeling of this photo.

Here's mine:

Thought for a while I might be taking myself off the list - ending up shading a PB but not troubling the 6s.

I had really high hopes for this - loved it when I shot it and it came out well in tonemapping - apart from the trees. I then did lots of tinkering with cropping, selective blurring and sharpening, even once I'd submitted I kept going back and re-doing it, did my last (5th or 6th I've lost count) edit on New Year's Eve. Advice & comments appreciated. Will try and comment on the other shots in this thread later on.

A couple of folks asked for the 'color' version. Here is my HDR with color - the colors were muted to begin with and I backed off even more with Photomatix...

I know it's early over there in NorthAmericaLand, but a reminder - check the first page of the thread and see who is in your subgroup with you - make sure you comment on the FS entries for at least those folks. Comment on any of the rest you wish!

Here's mine.

I got an undserving 4.9 score IMHO. Not it's not ribbn winning quality, but a 4.9? You gotta be kiddig me.

Why I like the shot? I like it's delicate, natural feel. Also, it was very spontaneous. (thought I guess the shot really doesn't convey that) The DOF is shallow, but it's not like none of it is in focus. Here eye closest to us is sharp.

Thanks to Melethia and Alain for their constructive criticism. I will go and do some commenting when I get home from work today. Feel free to give me your honest and unchecked opinion on my shot.

There was so much that I liked about this shot - soft clouds on the expansive sky, the small waves hitting the beach, the singular beachgoer, etc. I really expected more than a 5.3273.

C&C appreciated

Here is mine. It really didn't do to bad, but I thought it might do better. I love it.

Here's mine. :) I will comment on my group later tonight or tomorrow, I promise.

As I noted in my (updated) photog comments, I'm far less interested in what would have made this score better on DPC and much more interested in people's emotive reaction to the shot. My main goal was to create an environmental portrait that aroused curiosity about the person, and left them with a positive feeling about the subject and with an idea of what his personality might be like.

Thanks!

I liked
the reflections
the soft greens in the water
the snow around the shor and in the trees
the contrast between forground and background
The size of the image is small for what I was trying to show

This was my entry, and, yes, I still love my shot:

This was pretty much straight from the camera, one of a series I did at twilight at about 250 mm and 1/20 of a second. The light was too low to freeze motion, so I was experimenting with blur, both in the background and the bird. I was not trying to freeze action with this series, as there was something about the colors, textures and movements in the images that gave them a feel I really like. Here are some other shots from the series, also pretty much unedited except for a resize:

The score doesn't bother me too much, even though I'm surprised it finished as low as it did (even with a DPC-unfriendly technique!). I think my "mistake," if you want to call it that, was in entering an image that was sorta sharp, which I think some voters looked at as a failed attempt to freeze motion. I might have done better (maybe even topped 5, lol) with one of the streaker shots, where the intent to blur the entire image was more obvious.

No worries. I'd still love some feedback from anyone that cares to give it. Thanks Deb for the thoughtful comment, and I don't mind your re-edit at all. I like the crop you gave it, although I think I prefer the softer feel of the less edited version I entered.

I got the highest score I have had for ages in the December Free study, and so no photo from me, but I shall try and give some feedback on as many photos in this thread as I can manage. It will be good to comment on photos where people really do want to know the viewers' opinions.
